As we mark seven days since the ice storm began I wanted to touch base with our residents with words of encouragement and thanks. Though many have regained power there are still many without. Our local power company has done an outstanding job, working around the clock to get you reconnected. The linemen, many of which are local, have left their own families and property, to care for yours. Our local businesses could have easily locked their doors and went home until this event was over. Most did not. Our ambulance crews have not missed a beat and our firefighters have stepped up in more ways than you know providing a warming station and safe haven for those that didn't have one. My deputies have slept on cots so that they could be on duty at a moments notice. Our churches have opened their doors and cooked for those that could not for themselves. I say all of that to say this- we have persevered as a community and have not let this storm beat us down. This is who we are and I am proud to live here and serve in my capacity. It is my hope and prayer that this message lifts each and every one of you. Sheriff Scott D. Mathews

**UPDATE**
Propane Bottle Filling Station
Lamont Street, Oak Grove

The propane station will be operating tomorrow. However, due to the cold temperatures, operations will not resume until 10am on Saturday January 31st. Please limit yourself to two propane bottles, as we would like everyone who needs gas to be able to get it. Remember, as the supply tank gets lower on propane, the longer it takes to fill a propane bottle. Thanks for your continued cooperation. Sheriff Scott Mathews.

******ALERT******
Through the Governors Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) and the West Carroll Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness, propane will made available to our residents today. The transport truck will be at the Superior Building,(old glove factory), on Lamont Street in Oak Grove. The estimated arrival time is 1:30 pm. There will be a limit of three, five gallon bottles per household. Please have patience as we will direct vehicles and fill bottles as quickly as possible. Please note that those still without power, medical issues, and our elderly will have priority, and we will process until the supply is depleted. Thank you, Sheriff Mathews.

West Carroll Sheriff's Office Dispatcher and her family tragically lost their home early this morning to a house fire. Their family lost everything. We are posting a list of clothing and the sizes needed for the family. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. Items can be dropped off at the West Carroll Sheriff's Office.

As we approach daylight please stay off the roadways unless it it is an extreme emergency, as we are inundated with downed power lines and trees. Power crews and emergency workers are and will be working diligently to restore service as quickly as possible.

***Travel**

The road surfaces have become treacherous. Our Deputies are already fielding calls for stranded motorists in the ditch. Please stay off the roads if at all possible! The WCSO Deputies have been instructed, upon response to a vehicle in the ditch, we will get the occupants home safely and document the location of the vehicle and move on to the next call. A towing service will not be summoned if the stranded vehicle does not pose a roadway threat, as travel is also treacherous for the towing services.

ALL STATE OFFICES will be closed beginning at noon on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and continuing through 11:59 pm, Monday, January 26, 2026, due to inclement weather.

Road closures and detours can be found using the Louisiana Traveler Information System through several different methods, including the 511 phone system, www.511la.org, LA DOTD X accounts, and the “Louisiana 511” smartphone application.

Troopers are urging motorists to refrain from unnecessary travel during this winter weather event. However, if you travel, we strongly advise you to exercise utmost caution, strictly adhere to all traffic laws, eliminate distractions, and reduce your speed significantly.
