Embrace Living Communities

Embrace Living Communities Where Health and Housing Meet.

What began in 1895 continues today as a mission-driven commitment to affordable housing that strengthens communities while supporting health, independence, and aging in place.

Such joy for the Embrace residents while setting-up their community raised gardens, thanks to a grant from the National Equity Fund/Morgan Stanley. Thank you for your support! Here is what our resident say about this:
"I was so excited to garden again. I wore my apron, and I love to plant. I have been checking on the garden every day."
"I enjoyed planting, and everyone had fun. We were all helping each other."

Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson, and his team covering senior services, together with the 11th Ward Alderwoman Nicole Lee, and Commissioner Angela Greene, visited yesterday the Albert and Bernie Wong Senior Living Center, community managed by Embrace Living Communities.

Residents learned about Chicago’s Senior Festival coming up on September 17th, about how the city can help them with overcoming transportation barriers, and heard words of appreciation about how their hard work is the stepping stone for future generations.

“Seniors are the soul of Chicago. You raised families, worked here, and you created the foundation for having an Asian American Alderwoman. You gave us the power to do this.”, said Mayor Johnson

Embrace leaders attended the event to create new connections with city officials and to support the Embrace team on-site and the residents who are at the core of what we do.

Thank you for your visit!

Investing in Future Leaders, Strengthening Our Mission

This summer, we were fortunate to welcome two outstanding interns through the University of Chicago's Jeff Metcalf Internship Program.

Zoe supported our marketing efforts, while Riley focused on grant research and writing. Together, they contributed to a wide range of projects, including annual reports, grant applications, community visits, research, and more.

Beyond their hard work and talent, they brought fresh ideas, energy, and enthusiasm to our team, helping advance our mission while gaining firsthand experience in the nonprofit and affordable housing sectors.

Thank you for your meaningful impact on our communities and residents.

Every person has a story, and every community is shaped by the people who call it home.

Through our Voices of Embrace series, we're honored to share inspiring stories from residents, team members, and community partners across Illinois, Florida, and Missouri. These stories celebrate the connections, experiences, and sense of belonging that make our communities so special.

Follow along as we highlight the voices that bring our mission to life, one story at a time.

Thanks to the generous support of the Barrington Area Community Foundation, the world is coming to Greencastle of Barrington!

Our residents are exploring countries, museums, historical landmarks, and cultures through live, interactive Discover Live experiences, all from the comfort of home. These virtual adventures are bringing people together, sparking conversations, reducing isolation, and inspiring lifelong learning.

The new projector screens are also enhancing wellness and community life by supporting chair yoga, fitness programs, talent shows, and other resident events.

One resident shared, "I used to travel a lot. I have been to Egypt six times, but now I can do stay-at-home travel." Another said, "I've never been to those places, but now I can travel effortlessly in the middle of my 80s."

We are incredibly grateful to the Barrington Area Community Foundation for helping create meaningful experiences that keep our residents active, connected, and engaged.

Thank you for investing in our community!
