Shellfishing Update:
ALL ponds are now CLOSED to the taking of oysters and scallops.
The Oak Bluffs Harbor is CLOSED to the taking of any shellfish.
Farm Pond is CLOSED to the taking of any shellfish.

Lagoon Pond is now open for both recreational and commercial scalloping.

A few reminders:
The recreational limit is one bushel. Commercial is three.
No dragging for scallops if the air temperature hasnt reached 28 degrees F by 10 AM.
Adult scallops should have a well defined, raised annual growth line.
Diving, snorkeling, or swimming is only allowed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays and you must have a dive flag. Diving is not allowed for commercial fishers.

This Saturday, October 17th, Sengekontacket and the Outer Waters open to recreational scalloping. Check the Shellfish Department website to find out where check points are located. We will be out and about to help and check people throughout the weekend.

A record number of osprey nests were reported this year on Martha’s Vineyard, marking a new milestone for the once-threatened migratory birds. Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary reported 106 active nests this year.
