Mayor John V. Kelly, III, the Board of Commissioners and the Nutley Veterans Council invite all to the 105th Annual Nutley Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Events – Rain or Shine!

Mayor John V. Kelly, III, and the Board of Commissioners in partnership with the Nutley Veterans Council invite all to attend the Township’s 105th Annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade will be held on Monday, May 25, 2026, rain or shine. The Nutley War Memorial Remembrance Ceremony will start at 7:30am at the VFW Post 493. Following the Remembrance Ceremony, the Township will gather to honor Nutley’s fallen firefighters at the Public Safety Building at 10:30am. The Memorial Day Parade opening ceremony and welcome will begin at 10:45 at the Park Oval immediately followed by the parade at 11:00am.

“Memorial Day is not a day of mourning but a day of remembrance and thanks,” Mayor Kelly says. “It’s a day where we remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice and give thanks to those who gave everything so that we can continue to live in freedom and have everything we would ever want.”

The parade route is the same as in previous years, beginning on Chestnut Street leading up to Passaic Avenue across to Centre Street and on to Franklin Avenue. The reviewing stage will be located in front of John H. Walker Middle School. It is with great pleasure that we announce this year’s Grand Marshal, John Hoadley, Jr. our Veteran of the Year, Henry Del Toasto, and our first Patriot of the year Annette Arocho-Bautista. Reverend Eugene J. Field will lead the ceremony with the invocation prayer.

As always, all active military personnel and their families are invited and encouraged to participate in the parade. We invite all retired and/or inactive military personnel to join us on the parade route as well.

May 15, 2026 Blood Drive
In Memory of Anne Rotonda
Please Schedule Your Next Life-Giving Donation NOW!

Mayor John V. Kelly and the Nutley Department of Public Affairs are pleased to partner with Vitalant Blood Services of New Jersey to conduct a Nutley Community Blood Drive on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Memory of Nutley resident Anne Rotonda. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please click on the following link: https://donors.vitalant.org/dwp/portal/dwa or call (877) 258-4825.

The drive will be held at the Department of Public Affairs and Health – 149 Chestnut Street from 2:30pm – 6:00pm. Appointments are going quickly but walk-ins are accepted.

Sadly, our beautiful friend Anne lost her battle with cancer on August 21, 2021. Anne was diagnosed with AML– Acute Myeloid Leukemia. At that time, the Board of Commissioners held the first blood drive in Anne’s honor. In 2017 she was re-diagnosed with the same disease and in September of 2017 received a bone marrow transplant. She will forever live on in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers, and we will continue to honor her memory each year with this important, lifesaving event.

Donor Guidelines:
• Do not donate if you are sick.
• Weigh at least 110lbs
• Bring ID
• Eat a meal before donation.
• Drink plenty of water before and after

New Jersey on a whole is experiencing critically low donation numbers. There is an urgent need for Type O Negative, O Positive & B Negative Blood Types, but all types are welcome and needed!
If you have a question not covered here, please visit our donor eligibility page, call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825) or email us at [email protected]. For any additional information, please call the Department of Public Affairs and Health at 973-284-4976

National Nurses Week is celebrated each year from May 6–12. Led by the American Nurses Association (ANA), the week honors the dedication of nurses and coincides with the ANA’s 130th anniversary.
The 2026 theme, "The Power of Nurses™," focuses on elevating nurse voices, ensuring safety, and recognizing their impact on patient outcomes.
May 12th is Florence Nightingales birthday, and it is only fitting to take this opportunity today to recognize, celebrate, and most of all THANK our Township Nurses, Kim Lewis, Maddy Goglia, and Patty Cruz, for their knowledge, dedication, grace, compassion and selflessness. You three truly are superwomen and we are grateful for your service and commitment to our community!

"It would not be possible to praise nurses too highly."
Steven Ambrose
