2026 Junior Police Applications will be available at police headquarters 228 Chestnut st. today 5/8/26 starting at 530pm. This is on a first come first serve basis and applications must be dropped off in person. This fills up quickly so If you are not available the entire week, please do not take a spot of someone who can. Drs. notes for participation must be in by the deadline to be considered.

DEA National Take Back Event
Commissioner Petracco and Chief Strumolo wish to advise residents the Nutley Police Department will be taking part in the DEA National Take Back Event on Saturday April 25, 2026. This event offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at thousands of local drop-off locations nationwide. Properly dispose of your unneeded Rx drugs Saturday, April 25th, 10am-2pm at the Nutley Police Department.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue. Proper disposal of unneeded drugs saves lives and protects the environment and our overall community. Dispose of your unneeded Rx drugs, no questions asked.

Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. However, liquid products, such as cough syrup, WILL NOT be accepted.

If an original container is submitted, please be sure to remove any identifying information from the prescription label.

All solid dosage pharmaceutical products will be accepted.

Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes WILL NOT be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.

Illicit substances such as ma*****na or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative. Items with batteries, including v**e pens with non-removable batteries, and inhalers, WILL NOT be accepted.

Nutley Police Make Arrest in Car Burglary Investigation

Commissioner Petracco and Chief Strumolo are pleased to announce the Nutley Police Department arrested an individual who is suspected to have burglarized several vehicles this morning. Police responded to reports of an unknown party entering a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Bloomfield Ave. Police searched the area and located Mr. Michael Granberry, 37, who matched the description of the person reported to have entered the vehicle on Bloomfield Ave. Through further investigation and review of surveillance footage, Mr. Granberry was positively identified as the actor and taken into custody without incident. He was found to be in possession of several items taken from other vehicles in the same area. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please make sure your vehicles are locked and if you observe suspicious activity contact police immediately. Thank you

Road Closure

Commissioner Petracco and Chief Strumolo want to advise motorists of a road closure on the northbound side of Bloomfield Ave. between Church St. and Bank St. The Water Department has been advised and is responding. Please plan accordingly, and as always, drive safely!

“Commissioner Petracco and Chief Strumolo want to announce that the Nutley Police Department will be participating in the Goal Zero Statewide Traffic Enforcement Detail Monday February 23, 2026. This statewide Goal Zero enforcement detail is dedicated to the memory of Tim O’Donnell and his 5-year-old daughter Bridget, who were tragically killed in a crash on February 22, 2016 at 3:19 PM. This year marks the 10th anniversary of their passing. We are striving to curb dangerous driving behaviors and promote roadway safety through high-visibility enforcement and professional engagement. We remind everyone to drive safely!”

Arrest Made in Postal Service Vehicle Burglary

Director Petracco and Chief Strumolo are proud to announce The Nutley Police Department Detective Bureau was part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation into recent burglaries to United States Postal Service vehicles and mail thefts. Through the Detective Bureau’s investigative efforts, Mr. Tony Tucker, 55 of Orange NJ, was arrested and charged with burglary and theft for an incident involving a United States Postal Service vehicle that occurred in the Township of Nutley.
