Home Burglarized and Car Stolen
The Nutley Police responded to a residence on Carrie Court shortly before 1:30 am this morning on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. Upon investigating further, police learned the suspects gained entry to the victim's home through an unlocked door and stole the keys for a vehicle parked in the driveway. The suspects then stole the vehicle from the driveway. The suspects' vehicle was captured by the homeowner's surveillance cameras and appears to be a grey BMW X5 with LED lighting on the front grill and door handles. The suspects captured on surveillance are described as a black male wearing dark-colored clothing with a hood, a facial covering, white gloves, and white shoes who was accompanied by a black male who was also wearing dark-colored clothing and a facial covering, with black gloves, black shoes, and white socks.
The Nutley Police Detective Bureau is actively investigating this incident and we have increased patrols. Anyone who has information that could assist with this investigation is urged to contact the Nutley Police (973) 284-4940. We strongly encourage residents to implement the following target-hardening suggestions:
Ensure all doors and windows to your home are locked securely.
If suspicious uninvited people come onto your property contact police immediately.
Make sure your vehicles are locked and that you don't not leave your keys or key fobs in your vehicles. Make sure the lighting around your home is working, especially sensor lights on your property.
Make sure your surveillance cameras are working and properly recording.
Ensure your alarms are functioning and activated.
If you see or hear something, say something! Contact police immediately to report suspicious any activity.

The Nutley Police received reports of a black bear cub being sighted in the area of Walnut St. this evening. The bear has not been aggressive, just seen wandering in the area. However, we would like to share the following safety information provided by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection:

Secure trash and eliminate obvious sources of food such as pet food bowls, easy-to-reach bird feeders, and food residue left on barbecue grills.

Store all garbage in containers with tight-fitting lids.

Walk dogs on a leash.

Remove fruit or nuts that fall from trees in your yard.

If you encounter a black bear in your neighborhood, follow these safety tips:

Remain calm. Never run from a bear as this may trigger its predatory instinct. Instead, slowly back away. Avoid direct eye contact, which may be perceived by a bear as a challenge. Make sure the bear has an escape route.

To scare the bear away, make loud noises by yelling, using a whistle, banging pots and pans or blowing an air horn.

Make yourself look as big as possible by waving your arms.

Make bears aware of your presence by speaking in an assertive voice, singing, clapping your hands or making other noises.

If a bear utters a series of huffs, makes popping sounds by snapping its jaws or swats the ground, these are warning signs that you are too close. Slowly back away and avoid direct eye contact. Do not run.

If the bear does not leave, move to a secure area such as a vehicle or a building.

Plan Alternate Routes of Travel-Shuttle for World Cup Events Likely to Cause Traffic Congestion
The Nutley Police want to advise residents the Official NYNJ Stadium Shuttle for the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches will be running out of the Hackensack Meridian Health complex at the On3 property on Kingsland St. Spectators who will be using the shuttle service will be arriving utilizing the roads in the immediate area and this will likely cause traffic congestion. Matches will be held 6/13, 6/16, 6/22, 6/25, 6/27, 6/30, 7/5, and 7/19. We strongly encourage motorists to plan alternate routes of travel if possible to avoid the area of Kingsland St. between Cathedral Ave. and Bloomfield Ave. on those dates. 2026 Junior Police Applications will be available at police headquarters 228 Chestnut st. today 5/8/26 starting at 530pm. This is on a first come first serve basis and applications must be dropped off in person. This fills up quickly so If you are not available the entire week, please do not take a spot of someone who can. Drs. notes for participation must be in by the deadline to be considered.

DEA National Take Back Event
Commissioner Petracco and Chief Strumolo wish to advise residents the Nutley Police Department will be taking part in the DEA National Take Back Event on Saturday April 25, 2026. This event offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at thousands of local drop-off locations nationwide. Properly dispose of your unneeded Rx drugs Saturday, April 25th, 10am-2pm at the Nutley Police Department.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue. Proper disposal of unneeded drugs saves lives and protects the environment and our overall community. Dispose of your unneeded Rx drugs, no questions asked.

Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. However, liquid products, such as cough syrup, WILL NOT be accepted.

If an original container is submitted, please be sure to remove any identifying information from the prescription label.

All solid dosage pharmaceutical products will be accepted.

Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes WILL NOT be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.

Illicit substances such as ma*****na or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative. Items with batteries, including v**e pens with non-removable batteries, and inhalers, WILL NOT be accepted.

Nutley Police Make Arrest in Car Burglary Investigation

Commissioner Petracco and Chief Strumolo are pleased to announce the Nutley Police Department arrested an individual who is suspected to have burglarized several vehicles this morning. Police responded to reports of an unknown party entering a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Bloomfield Ave. Police searched the area and located Mr. Michael Granberry, 37, who matched the description of the person reported to have entered the vehicle on Bloomfield Ave. Through further investigation and review of surveillance footage, Mr. Granberry was positively identified as the actor and taken into custody without incident. He was found to be in possession of several items taken from other vehicles in the same area. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please make sure your vehicles are locked and if you observe suspicious activity contact police immediately. Thank you
