🔥 MULTIPLE GRASS FIRES — HIGHWAY 10 🔥
On August 31, 2026, Nowata Fire was dispatched to reports of multiple grass fires along Highway 10, spanning from 407 Rd. to 412 Rd.
While en-route, crews observed heavy smoke conditions from the area of Highway 169 and EW 13rd. Based on the amount of smoke and the weather conditions, multiple mutual-aid agencies were immediately requested. Our goal was to establish the resources necessary as quickly as possible to protect lives, property, and the community.
Upon arrival, crews discovered six separate fires along the affected area. Two of those fires posed a direct threat to homes and other structures. First arriving resources were immediately prioritized to those locations, while additional incoming units were assigned to the remaining fires.
Through the quick response and coordinated efforts of everyone involved, no structures were lost or damaged during the incident.
We want to extend a sincere THANK YOU to every agency and firefighter who responded to assist us. More than 13 agencies responded, with some traveling from as far as 45 miles away to help bring this incident under control.
This incident is a direct example of what the fire service is all about, helping our brothers and sisters when they need it.
Yesterday, firefighters from numerous departments worked hand in hand toward one common mission. Department names and jurisdictional boundaries didn’t matter. What mattered was getting the job done safely and protecting lives and property.
To every firefighter, department, dispatcher, and supporting agency that played a part in yesterday’s incident: Thank you. Your assistance, professionalism, and willingness to answer the call are greatly appreciated.
