This is our 1976 American LaFrance Pioneer Series 3 it originally served the City of Montgomery, Al Fire Department as Engine Company #1 until 1996 when it was obtained by Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire Protection Authority serving as Engine 2 for another twenty years. The rig was donated to another department which opted to unceremoniously scrap it. The salvage yard owner thought it very distasteful to destroy such a beautiful engine so with his graciousness and my extremely supportive wife it was thankfully saved from the cutting torch. Now this piece of local history is enjoying a well deserved retirement while undergoing a gradual restoration.

It took a few years but this rig is now officially part of my collection. We will be having it moved out of the elements and begin the restoration process it should be a good project. This unit began its life in 1967 as Shelby Township, Michigan Engine 4, it then came south in the mid 1980's after being purchased locally by Friendship Fire Department as Engine 902, it was then sold again in 1999 to Red Hill VFD where it served as Engine 1602. The Mack C-95FD with its distinctive cab was once very sought after in this area as it was known as a durable firefighting workhorse. Sadly most met the scrappers torch instead of being preserved hopefully we will be able to return this example to its former glory so that others will be able to enjoy it in the future.

We are a newly forming group who have an interest in preserving our nations firefighting history with a focus on East Central Alabama. We accomplish this through collecting antique fire equipment such as helmets, coats, pants and boots. Several members have also purchased fire engines many of which were destined for the cutters torch and now direct their efforts in restoring them to working order, taking great pride showing the fruits of their labor in local parades or car shows. While owning a fire engine is a unique experience it is NOT a requirement to join this organization. If you think this might be something you might enjoy don't hesitate to message us for membership information.
