It is with a heavy heart that I learned today of the passing of Richard A. Vogler - a giant in the Norwood Community.

Richie gave 25 years to this Borough as Clerk, 16 as a Councilman, and 13 as Police Commissioner. His record alone tells the story of a man who loved this town.

Norwood is better for having had him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.

🎉 One of the joys of serving on the Norwood Town Council is returning to the school where my children, Jack and Georgia spent their formative years to present the Norwood Democratic Award. This award is given each year to a student who demonstrates exceptional commitment to fostering a positive environment within the school. This year’s well-deserving recipient: Donghwan Han! Congratulations Donghwan! 💙✨

Last night’s Narcan training event, hosted by the Norwood Municipal Alliance and organized by the Norwood Police Department, was well attended and incredibly informative.

One Narcan kit can mean the difference between life and death. Participants received valuable information, resources, and education from Bergen County Recovery Support Services and Jessica Fernandez, LSW, of the Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources.

A special thank you to Chief Chris Federici, Lieutenant John Amatucci, and the Norwood Police Department for organizing this vital community program.

We were also fortunate to hear from officers who bring real-world experience to these situations every day:

• Officer Ryan McMackin, Member of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, Fi****ms Instructor, and Active Shooter Training Instructor

• Officer Marc Esposito, Traffic Officer, Field Training Officer, and Child Passenger Safety Technician

Their firsthand perspectives on responding to overdose emergencies reinforced just how critical Narcan can be in saving lives. Hearing what first responders encounter in the field provided valuable insight into the importance of being prepared to act in an emergency.

Opioids do not discriminate, and they are present in communities everywhere. Education, awareness, and preparedness are powerful tools. We look forward to continuing to offer these trainings and resources to our community in the future.
