Free ferns are available to take at NYA Legion Park. They’re first come, first served (10 available), no saves or holds. Tuesday to Friday or until gone.

A special thank you to the NYA CIP Group for taking such great care of these ferns all summer and for helping keep our park green and welcoming!

City Hall will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. Regular office hours will resume Tuesday, September 8th.

The NYA Compost Site and the NYA Recycle Center will be closed on Saturday, September 5th. Regular hours will resume on Wednesday, September 9th.

Library access on your schedule! The Norwood Young America Library now offers Extended Access from 7am–10pm daily. Check out the original post for more information on how to get started.

Extended Access at Norwood Young America Library is now available! It allows you access to unstaffed library hours from 7 am to 10 pm daily. Learn more and start the process by heading to our website to fill in an application, then scheduling an orientation. Link in comments.

Highway 212 Project Update in Benton Township

Tacoma Avenue is now open at Highway 212 in Norwood Young America.

Paving near the Carver County Public Works driveway is scheduled for:
• Thursday, Aug. 27
• Friday, Aug. 28
• Tuesday, Sept. 1

Drivers should expect construction activity near the driveway and use caution when traveling through the area.

Reminder: Highway 153 north of Highway 212 and Salem Avenue south of Highway 212 remain closed. Please continue to follow posted detours.

Project updates from the Minnesota Department of Transportation:

Metro - Hwy 212 in Norwood Young America and Young America Township: 2026 construction
Access at Hwy 212 and Hwy 5/25/County Rd/ 131 changes Aug. 27

Crews begin work on the Hwy 212 median at Hwy 5/25/Co. Rd. 131 in Young America Township at 7 a.m. Thu, Aug. 27.

Through early October, work on the median will result in the following traffic impacts:
• Westbound Hwy 212 to southbound Hwy 5/25 detour: Hwy 212 to southbound Co. Rd. 1 to eastbound Co. Rd. 10/50 to Hwy 5/25
• Eastbound Hwy 212 to northbound Co. Rd. 131 detour: Eastbound Hwy 212 to Wells Ave. J-turn to westbound Hwy 212 to Co. Rd. 131
• Northbound Hwy 5/25 to westbound Hwy 212 detour: Northbound Hwy 5/25 to eastbound Hwy 212 to Wells Ave. J-turn to westbound Hwy 212
• Northbound Hwy 5/25 (across Hwy 212) to Co. Rd. 131 detour: Eastbound Hwy 212 to Wells Ave. J-turn to westbound Hwy 212 to Co. Rd. 131
• Southbound Co. Rd. 131 (across Hwy 212) to Hwy 5/25 detour: Westbound Hwy 212 to southbound Co. Rd. 1 to eastbound Co. Rd. 10/50 to Hwy 5/25

Crews began work at the Hwy 212 and Hwy 5/25/Co. Rd. 131 intersection earlier this month and will complete work on the south side of the intersection by Fri, Aug. 28.

Crews will complete work at the Co. Rd. 31 J-turn by Sat, Aug. 29.

Traffic remains reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project area, between Hwy 5/25/Co. Rd. 131 in Young America Township and Hwy 5/25/Reform St. in Norwood Young America.

Please drive with care in work zones:
• Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate with care and caution.
• Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
• Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
• Obey posted speed limits. The fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
• Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
• Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

More about this project:
Crews are working to improve about 2.5 miles of Hwy 212 by building J-turns at Hwy 5/25/Co. Rd. 131, Wells Ave., Co. Rd. 31 and West Railroad St. Workers will also install cable median barriers.
The J-turns will help reduce “T-bone” crashes and the cable median barriers will help reduce cross-median crashes.
The project is planned to be completed in fall 2026.

Work continues on Tacoma Avenue within the Highway 212 - Benton Township Project. Paving was completed last week, and seeding, lighting, and striping are scheduled as work continues this week.
