We’re hiring: Families Learning English / ESOL Teacher

Norwich Regional Adult Education is seeking a part-time Families Learning English (FLE) / ESOL Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year.

This school-based adult ESOL program supports parents and caregivers as they build English language skills, strengthen digital and employability skills, and become more confident partners in their children’s education.

The FLE teacher provides differentiated ESOL instruction for adult learners using Burlington English and supplementary materials, integrates technology through Google Classroom/Google Suite and Viewboards, and connects English learning to real-life family, school, community, and workforce goals.

Families Learning English is designed for parents/caregivers connected to young children, with a child activity/childcare component available for children ages 2–8 while adults attend class. The teacher’s primary role is adult ESOL instruction, with opportunities to support occasional interactive family literacy activities that bring parents and children together.

Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00–6:30 PM
Location: Norwich
Start: Anticipated September 2026
Position type: Part-time
Certification: CT Certification for Non-English Speaking Adults #088 or equivalent required

Caring about students also means expecting great things from them.

Congratulations to Amanda Crocker, Norwich Regional Adult Education’s 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year. 🎉

Amanda represents the kind of educator adult education needs right now: thoughtful, adaptive, student-centered, and always pushing herself to make learning more meaningful and effective.

Her classroom is never static. She builds lessons around real student goals, adjusts to the personalities and needs of the people in front of her, and creates an environment that is both academically strong and genuinely engaging. Students trust her because they know she is invested in helping them move forward — not just checking boxes.

What makes Amanda stand out is her combination of creativity, drive, and vision. She is constantly thinking about how education can work better for today’s learners and how programs can continue evolving to meet a changing world.

We’re excited to see her step into an expanded leadership role next year as ESOL Program Lead, where her energy and ideas will help shape the future of the program.

This recognition is incredibly deserved. Congratulations, Amanda! 🚀

More Than a Day 🌎

🌍🍃🌟Earth Day is a reminder—but the work happens all year.

Just a couple of weeks ago, ten ESOL students (and Program Leader Katrina Bercaw!) spread out across our campus—front, back, along the fences, and even under the ramps—to clear litter and restore the space.

✨🤩Their effort made an immediate difference. It looks better, feels better, and reflects the pride they take in their community.💪💪💪

Katrina leads this cleanup each year, bringing the same environmental commitment she lives every day into our program—and our students show up right alongside her.

🤩💪💪 The Team Behind the Success 🤩💪💪

Supporting students, building connections, and representing NRAE with style…our Case Management Team showed up in style at the CAACE Conference! We have Carol Perisho, our Transitions Guidance Counselor, and our two case managers, Ashley Quiles and Linda Burhans!

This incredible team supports students every day—helping them set goals, overcome barriers, and stay on track toward success.

It was great to see them connecting with colleagues across the state and bringing that same dedication to this professional learning experience.

💥💥💥Learning, Leading, and Leveling Up💥💥💥

Last week, Norwich Regional Adult Education staff attended the Connecticut Association of Adult & Continuing Education (CAACE) Conference—an inspiring day of professional learning, collaboration, and new ideas.

From digital literacy and workforce development to classroom engagement and innovative program design, adult educators from across Connecticut came together to share what’s working and explore how we can continue strengthening adult education statewide.

We were also honored to have Ned Lamont in attendance—highlighting the importance of adult education and its role in strengthening Connecticut’s workforce.

Opportunities like this allow our team to learn from others, reflect on our own practices, and bring back new strategies to better support our students.

We’re proud to be part of a community committed to growing, improving, and expanding access to adult education across Connecticut.
