⚠️ COMMUNITY ALERT: Protecting Our Youth in the Digital Age

The Chenango Threat Advisory Committee (CHENTAC) is inviting parents, educators, and community members to an important informational presentation featuring the FBI and New York State Police.

The presentation will address the growing online threats targeting children through gaming platforms and social media, including manipulation, sextortion, coercion, and other hidden digital dangers. Attendees will learn how these threats operate and what preventative steps can be taken to help protect children and families.

"September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years ago today, Americans from every walk of life woke up and began what they thought would be an ordinary day.

Like most Americans, I can recall where I was that specific morning. I was five years old and was attending my kindergarten class at Holy Family School here in the City of Norwich. None of us could have known that, over the course of that morning, our country—and the world—would change forever.

The City of Norwich, like communities across America, was deeply impacted by this unthinkable tragedy. Our community lost two Norwich High School graduates, Robert Peraza and Michele Reed, in the terrorist attacks. They were family members, friends, and colleagues to so many people who call Norwich home. To honor and remember their lives, a memorial stands for Robert and Michele at Guernsey Library Park on West Main Street.

Our local emergency services were impacted as well. The City of Norwich sent members of both our Fire Department and Police Department to answer the call of our country—to search for survivors, to help their brothers and sisters in emergency services, and to be part of something much bigger than themselves.

Today, we must continue to speak about those who were lost, the nearly 3,000 lives taken that day, and the countless lives forever changed by their loss. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger. We remember the men, women, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors who never made it home. For so many, the aftermath is still ongoing. We honor those first responders and families who are experiencing the consequences of life after September 11th, 2001.

And we remember the strength and compassion that emerged from the darkness—the way Americans came together, stood beside one another, and reminded the world what it means to be a community.

On the 25th Anniversary of these attacks, today we remember, we honor.

And today, we reaffirm to ourselves, to our country, and to the world:

We will never forget."

We are pleased to share that our annual NYS Department of State Training will be held on Tuesday, July 28th in the Community Room at the SUNY Morrisville - Norwich Campus.

This training is eligible for four hours of continuing education credit for Town Board, Planning and Zoning Board members, and Code Enforcement officials. A certificate of completion will be given to attendees after the training. Course descriptions can be found on the attached flyer.

The training is completely free and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

"The City of Norwich is excited to have been awarded $810,000 for improvements to Bruchhausen Parks. We cannot wait to kick off this project."

Mayor Jeffrey said after notification of the City receiving the funds, “Today's announcement is great news for families in the City of Norwich. Parks and the recreation they offer are at the heart of strong communities, providing places for families to gather, children to play and neighbors to connect. The improvements planned for Bruchhausen park will enhance the quality of life and expand wellness opportunities for our residents and further strengthen our City's East Side neighborhoods. We are grateful to Governor Hochul and our state representatives for their support and commitment to the City of Norwich."

Governor Hochul announced that more than $10 million in funding was awarded to 20 projects as part of Round 2 of the Municipal Parks and Recreation (MPR) Grant Program to fund the development and improvement of municipal parks and recreation sites statewide for the public to enjoy.
