Today I attended the Rio Hondo Coastal Spreading Grounds Fence Replacement Project ribbon-cutting ceremony. It marks an important milestone for the 30th Senate District. I am proud to share that the $935,000 in state funding I secured has replace the chain-link fence that had been in disrepair, creating safety concerns and contributing to illegal dumping and trespassing along the Rio Hondo channel.
The new fence will help improve safety, enhance neighborhood protection, and support the well-being of communities between Montebello and Pico Rivera. It was great to join city officials, community leaders, and residents to celebrate the start of this much-needed improvement.

Starting off Memorial Day weekend, I was honored to attend the unveiling of the City of Pico Rivera’s Purple Heart Memorial, a powerful tribute to the brave men and women wounded or lost in service to our nation.
As a proud Purple Heart City, Pico Rivera continues to honor the sacrifice, resilience, and courage of our veterans and military families. Thank you to city officials and everyone who made this meaningful memorial possible and for ensuring our heroes stories and service are never forgotten.

Today in the City of Pico Rivera, I broke bread with veterans who carry the memories of brothers and sisters lost in combat, and with families who continue to bear the pain of loved ones who never made it home. Their sacrifice and service will never be forgotten, and our grateful nation owes them a debt for the freedoms we enjoy every day.
Thank you to city officials and community partner Salsa Grill Restaurant for providing a free breakfast to bring our community together in remembrance and gratitude this Memorial Day.

This Memorial Day, I had the honor of joining families from across the region at Rose Hills Memorial Park to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to a grateful nation.
I was proud to introduce Colonel Lisa Costanza, U.S. Army (Ret.), California Army National Guard, as this year’s keynote speaker and to recognize a 101-year-old World War II veteran whose life reflects the legacy of the Greatest Generation.
Today and always, let us honor our fallen heroes, support their families, and recommit to never forgetting the cost of freedom.

I was proud to honor Heart of Compassion Distribution as the 2026 Nonprofit of the Year for California’s 30th Senate District during California Nonprofits Day at the State Capitol, hosted by CalNonprofits.
What began in 1993 with Pastor Eric Tietze serving breakfast to families in Pico Rivera, part of the 30th Senate District, has grown into a life-changing organization serving communities across Southern California. For the past several years, Heart of Compassion has been proudly located in Montebello, also in the 30th Senate District.
Today, alongside honorees Pastor Eric Tietze, George Esparza, and Christina Sandoval, we recognized an organization that distributes more than 19 million pounds of food and essential goods annually while changing lives through housing, workforce training, education, and compassionate service.
Thank you to Heart of Compassion and its incredible volunteers for being a beacon of hope for so many families.
