Yesterday, members of the Rowayton Fire Department took advantage of the freezing temperatures to conduct critical ice rescue drills in real-world conditions. Utilizing the frozen Five Mile River and launching from Pinckney Park, our team practiced the specialized techniques required to ensure we are ready to respond to emergencies on the ice.
Ice Safety Warning
While we train to ensure we are ready for any emergency, we urge all residents to recognize the unpredictability of local ice conditions. As snow and ice begin to melt, surfaces become increasingly unstable.
Please remember:
    •    Keep a safe distance from the water’s edge.
    •    Ice thickness can vary greatly across a single body of water; never assume it is safe to walk on.
    •    Keep pets on a leash when near frozen rivers and ponds.
