Yesterday Evening, Members of the Rowayton Fire Department responded to storm related flooding. Rowayton Car 4 arrived on scene as the first unit and assumed command. Rowayton E3 arrived on scene a short time later with man power to perform swift water rescues along the Five Mile River to residents in homes and vehicles.

Flash Flood Warnings should always be taken seriously. If you live in a flood prone or low lying area, move to higher ground immediately when a warning is issued. Flash floods can develop rapidly, even in areas that are not experiencing heavy rainfall.

Yesterday, the Rowayton Fire Department welcomed J Miller for a very important training session focused on forcible entry, garage ventilation, and lock breaching techniques. Members of the Darien Fire Department also joined us for this valuable training opportunity. We are grateful to Signal 77 for sharing their experience and knowledge to our members. We also appreciate the participation of the Darien Fire Department and the opportunity to train together.

ROWAYTON, CT - June 11, 2026 - On the evening of June 11, 2026, at approximately 5:08 p.m., the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department, alongside the Norwalk PD and Norwalk EMS, responded to a report of a possible drowning near the Bell Island Bridge.

Rowayton Engine 2 and Car 4 arrived on the scene at 5:11 p.m. as the first responding units. Upon arrival, crews spotted a swimmer in distress in the middle of Farm Creek, where a 14-year-old boy was struggling against strong tidal currents.

Firefighters immediately deployed two rescue swimmers into the water at 5:13 p.m. By 5:15 p.m., the teen was successfully rescued and brought safely back to shore. Norwalk EMS evaluated the patient at the scene, and it was determined that no further medical treatment was required.

The Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department extends its sincere gratitude to all of our mutual aid partners who responded, as well as the bystanders on the scene whose quick thinking and assistance contributed to this successful outcome.

As summer begins, the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department reminds residents and visitors to always be aware of their swimming abilities and to remain vigilant regarding local water hazards, including deceptively strong tidal currents.
