There is a slight (level 2 out of 5) risk of severe storms Friday afternoon and evening, mainly southwest of I-94 in the Driftless Region. Large hail and heavy rain are the main threats, but the exact details of where the storms form and their severity will be dictated by how storms behave Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. 5/16 6:00AM - Severe storm potential returns to the local area for Sunday and Monday. A line of storms is expected to progress east through the area from the late evening into the nighttime hours Sunday with large hail and damaging winds as the primary local hazards. The highest local daily confidence for strong to severe storms occurs on Monday with potential for all types of severe weather hazards; tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain.

We of course are south of I-90, but not that far south and are in the orange.

There is an enhanced (Threat Level 3 out of 5) risk for severe storms this afternoon and into the late evening for areas along and north of Interstate 90. Storms will likely develop north of an Owatonna to Winona, MN line and move to the east/northeast, quickly becoming severe. Large hail and heavy rain will be the primary threat with these storms, however damaging wind gusts and a tornado or two are also possible. Be sure to stay weather aware and take shelter as storms approach!

There is a risk for severe storms Monday late afternoon and evening areawide. Storms may struggle to develop, but any storms that do form will be capable of large hail and damaging winds. If conditions line up favorably, a tornado or heavy rain threat may evolve. Given this lower confidence forecast and the potential for multiple scenarios to unfold, please pay attention to the forecast as we get closer to the event. How Monday unfolds plays into Tuesday's severe weather threat, with some indications that the threat area will shift more into Iowa and southern Wisconsin.
