City of Norton Commissioner of the Revenue

City of Norton Commissioner of the Revenue Marcus Adkins Commissioner of the Revenue, City of Norton, VA

11/05/2025

Yesterday, the people of Norton placed their trust in me to serve as your next Commissioner of the Revenue, and I am deeply grateful. Thank you to every voter who made your voice heard, to those who knocked doors, shared posts, offered advice, requested signs, and kept us going with encouragement and prayer. Your belief in our city and in this campaign means more than I can say. Voting is our greatest right, and I am so grateful for all those who chose to come out yesterday and who early voted, regardless of the vote that was cast. I encourage those who were not able to vote to consider voting in next year’s election.

To my family and friends, thank you for your steady support and encouragement since I began this campaign. Especially to my family, thank you for understanding the time that was put into this campaign and allowing me the space to explore something I was passionate about. To the incredible volunteers, community partners, leaders, and fellow business owners, your time and talent powered this effort from day one. A big shoutout to all of my family and friends who stood beside me on Election Day, providing encouragement and steadfast support. And to the dedicated poll workers and election officials, thank you for safeguarding our democracy.

I also want to extend my respect to my opponent. Campaigns require sacrifice and love for community. Melanie, thank you for choosing to operate a clean campaign. I appreciate that we were able to talk at times, wave, and smile at each other throughout this process. Norton is stronger when good people step forward to serve, and I appreciate your contribution to this process.

Last but not least, Judy Miller, I don’t know how I can ever thank you enough. Probably eight years ago or so, I remember you telling me that you thought I should consider running for this position when you retired. Those simple conversations created a spark in me, and I began learning more about the office from you and other Commissioner friends across the region. Your encouragement throughout this journey helped strengthen me, and your passion for Norton and its citizens made mine grow even stronger. Thank you for sacrificing your time from your family and loved ones as you stood beside me, and thank you to your family for being understanding and for their words of encouragement as well. I look forward to working with you as we begin this transition over the next few months. You have spent your life dedicated to this office and to the people of Norton, and I am honored to have your support.

As I take a moment to look back on the past few months and look ahead to tomorrow, I’m reminded of the truth in Colossians 1:16 (NIV):

“For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.”

This verse reminds me that everything, every opportunity, every challenge, every conversation, and every connection has a purpose in God’s greater plan.

As this journey draws near to its next chapter, I’m filled with gratitude for the people I’ve met, the prayers shared, and the encouragement I’ve received from so many in our community. Whatever happens in the days ahead, I trust that all things are working together for His glory and the good of Norton.

Thank you for your continued support, your friendship, and your faith in what we can accomplish together. 🙏💙

The Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office plays a vital role in keeping our city running. From assessing local taxes fairly and accurately to ensuring citizens and small businesses receive the credits and benefits they’re entitled to, this office is the foundation of transparency and trust in local government.

As your next Commissioner of the Revenue, I will bring both professional experience and a servant’s heart to this important role. With a background in finance, business management, and community development, I’ve spent my career making sure that resources are managed wisely, that local families and businesses have the support they need, and that every decision is made with fairness and accountability.

I believe in a Commissioner’s Office that is:
✅ Accessible — open to every citizen with clear communication and helpful service.
✅ Accurate — ensuring assessments are fair and consistent.
✅ Accountable — building public trust through efficiency and transparency.

Norton deserves leadership that’s professional, compassionate, and committed to serving every resident. I would be honored to earn your vote for Commissioner of the Revenue, to continue working for the city we all call home. 💙

Thanks to The Coalfield Progress for allowing local candidates the opportunity to express their views. I am sharing the article if anyone missed it.

The City of Norton is my home, and I truly care about this community and the people who make it special. Throughout my career—whether as a nurse, a nonprofit director, or in public service—I’ve focused on helping people access the resources they need to succeed.

As Commissioner of the Revenue, I want to make sure our office operates with fairness, transparency, and efficiency. My goal is to make the office more accessible and user-friendly for all residents and small businesses. Too often, government processes can feel complicated or overwhelming, and I believe we can do better.

I’ll work to:
✅ Streamline and modernize services
✅ Expand online tools and resources
✅ Improve communication with citizens and local businesses
✅ Provide clear, timely information to make taxes and licensing easier to understand

With my background in business, finance, and community leadership, I’m ready to serve Norton with integrity and a true commitment to helping our residents and businesses thrive.

This city is my home—and I’m running to make sure everyone in Norton has the access, support, and respect they deserve. 💙
