Remember tomorrow Saturday, September 27th from 10am-4pm is the The Clinch Coalition 8th Annual Naturalist Rally at Bark Camp Lake. Be sure to show up early and register for some fun and exciting hikes.
The first set of hikes will depart at 10 a.m., with topics including mushrooms, led by Gabrielle Zeiger with the North American Mycological Association; wetlands, led by Lois Boggs from the United States Forestry Service (this hike will be two-and-a-half hours long and will require shoes and clothes that can get wet); and salamanders, led by Walter Smith, associate professor at the University of Virginia's College at Wise.
The afternoon hikes will begin after the free lunch and include the topics of salamanders; Kitchen Rock, led by Phil Shelton, assistant professor at UVA-Wise; and edible wild plants, led by Phil Meeks from the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
Morning presentations will include information on bees by Mike Yates; High K**b weather by Wayne Browning; and native reptiles of the southeastern United States, led by Chuck Hurd.
The afternoon presentations will cover the topics of raptors by Bays Mountain; invasive species by the Wise Environmental Club; wild mushrooms by Johnny Stanley; and Karen Hartsock will be explore nature with kids. Canoeing will also be available on a limited basis
