Wise County saw a first in its history Friday as the county’s first female Circuit Court Clerk took the oath of office.

I am honored and humbled by the trust that the people of Wise County and Norton have placed in me to hold elective office.

I will not forget what this means and the responsibilities that have been entrusted to me.

I received a lot of help along the way. First, I want to thank God for strengthening me during this process. Next, I’d like to thank all my supporters from the Republican primary election, and now to those who supported me in this general election and all those I’ve met along the way who have encouraged me. . . . I’d also like to thank all those who serve and work with me in the Circuit Court Clerk’s office now.

My grandfather, former Sheriff Ronnie Oakes, and his generation have shown me what true public service is. My parents and my husband serve the public now.

And now it is time for my generation to become good stewards of good government.

I ran on Accessibility, Affordability and Accountability. I plan to fulfill every one of those promises. I ask for your continued support and prayers as I begin this role. I know that I can’t do this alone.

You can vote at the Wise Registrars office (Justice Center) , Norton Registrars office (Norton Community Center) or the Carnes gym in Big Stone Gap. All of these locations are open tomorrow from 9AM-5PM.

If you haven’t early voted remember to come out and cast your vote on Election Day at your correct precinct. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
