The Virginia Department of Health has assessed the Wise County Public Service Authority and each Virginia Waterworks Operation a fee of $3.00 for each water service connection. This fee is a mandatory annual charge. The Department of Health will use the fee to assist waterworks owners in complying with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. PSA is collecting the $3.00 Waterworks Operation Fee on the utility bills due August 17, 2026 and it is listed as “VDH”. PSA must forward the fees to the state after collection.

***Please note, this is not a new fee. This fee is charged yearly, in August, and is mandatory throughout the entire State of Virginia. The PSA does not profit from this fee. This fee is paid to PSA and PSA pays the fee directly to the Virginia Department of Health – Office of Drinking Water.***

On Monday, August 3, PSA contractors will be transferring all customers in the Pound Bottom area onto the newly installed waterline.

As crews abandon the old line and place the new waterline into service, water service may be intermittent throughout the day. Customers may experience temporary low pressure or short periods of no water as the switchover takes place. We recommend filling up a few containers of water ahead of time for basic needs.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this necessary update to our water system. If you have any questions or experience prolonged outages, please contact the PSA office.

Water Outage Notice – July 14

Due to scheduled water line maintenance and replacement, water service will be interrupted in the following areas:
-Old Indian Creek Road
-Bean Gap
-Route 72
-The four-lane toward Pound
-North Fork
-South Fork
-Surrounding areas
-The Stephens area may also be affected.

Work will begin tomorrow, July 14. Water outages are expected to last for most of the day and may continue into the evening or even the following day.

Our goal is to complete the repairs by tomorrow evening. However, because of the age of the water lines in these areas and the high water pressure, additional leaks are likely to occur. If this happens, repairs will take longer, and our crews may need to continue working through the night and beyond to restore service safely.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as our contractor completes these necessary improvements to the water system.

We also ask that everyone please be kind and respectful to our staff and crews as they work to complete these important repairs.

Water Restoration Update:

Our PSA crews have been working around the clock to restore water service as quickly and safely as possible. At this point, many of our employees have worked more than 24 consecutive hours, after already putting in 17+ hour shifts over the previous two days. They are exhausted, but they continue showing up because they are committed to getting your water restored.

We know these repeated outages caused by the construction project have been incredibly frustrating. We share that frustration, and we understand how difficult it is to be without water. Please know that our crews are doing everything they can to complete the repairs and restore service as quickly as possible.

We also want to ask for your patience and kindness. Our employees are working under extremely challenging conditions and are doing everything within their power to help our community. We understand your frustration, but we ask that you please refrain from yelling at or being disrespectful toward our staff. They are your neighbors, friends, and family members, and they deserve to be treated with the same respect they strive to show each of you.

Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and support as we work to restore service to everyone as quickly as possible.

Due to line maintenance/replacement this week, there will be water outages in the following areas: Old Indian Creek Rd, Bean Gap, Rt. 72, the four lane going to Pound, North Fork, South Fork and surrounding areas. There is also the possibility of the Stephens area being affected by this as well. Please be advised that there will be a scheduled temporary water outage on Monday, June 15th for the connection with the new waterline to the existing system. This outage will affect customers along Old Indian Creek Rd, Curtiss Hill Rd, Creek Valley Road, and Killen Hollow Rd. We recommend planning ahead to minimize any impact on your water usage. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Wise County PSA has experienced a waterline break near the 11000 block of Laurel Street in Pound. Out of an abundance of caution, a boil water advisory is now in effect until further notice for those PSA customers located in the following areas in Pound: Laurel Street, Riverside Drive, Riverside Circle, Spruce Street, Walnut Street, Hickory Street, and Pine Street. Customers should not drink tap water without bringing water to a rolling boil for at least a minute and letting it cool before drinking. The impact is approximately 100 customers.
