The YAS is a biennial, countywide online survey on the health behaviors of 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students. Now in its eleventh administration since 2005, the 2025 survey included nine school systems and more than 5,000 teen responses to 180+ questions. Governor Whitmer signed a proclamation stating April is alcohol awareness and underage drinking prevention month in Michigan. Youth who drink alcohol are more likely to experience problems in school and their social life, legal problems, misuse of other substances and changes in brain development that may have lifelong effects.

On Tuesday, March 10, HealthWest held its quarterly Rising Stars ceremony. That evening we honored several amazing individuals who have achieved incredible milestones on their journey with us.

We will be sharing their powerful stories. You will read about children finding their voice, adults beating the odds to live independently and thriving in their daily lives.

Bruce’s journey shows the power of healing and second chances. With support from community services—including treatment available in our county jail—he committed to his recovery and has maintained his sobriety. His resilience and gratitude remind us that lasting change is possible.
