**Happy Retirement**
We would like to congratulate Mark "Coach" Konecny a very Happy Retirement. Mark worked his last shift with Norton Shores Fire Department on April 15th capping off an incredible 34 year run in the fire service.
Mark grew up in City of Norton Shores and graduated from Mona Shores Public Schools. After College, Mark spent some time in the NFL as a Special Teams player, before entering the fire service. Mark then moved out to Colorado where he took a job with Littleton Fire Department which is now part of South Metro Professional Firefighters Local 2086. While in Colorado, Mark planted his family roots there with his wife Lauri and his son Mark. He worked out in Littleton as an "Engine Boss," specializing in Wildland firefighting and taking on the role as an engineer. Mark then brought his years of experience back to Norton Shores in 2017 after retiring from Littleton Fire Department.
Mark was an incredible asset to the NSFD during his 9 years with us, always taking the time to mentor others, affectionately landing him the nickname "Coach," as he has always had a passion for coaching. Coach was always willing to help others, and would never shy away from a good conversation about any topic. His presence around the station and his skills as a firefighter and Engine Operator will be greatly missed, and we wish Mark all the best in his next adventure.
Don't forget to stop in and visit, Coach!
