Flood Warning
FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON TO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING
Flood Warning issued August 18 at 11:20AM CDT until August 22 at 1:00AM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA..The National Weather Service in Des Moines IA has issued a Flood
Warning for the following rivers in Iowa...

Winnebago River at Mason City affecting Worth, Cerro Gordo and
Floyd Counties.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...The Winnebago River at Mason City, or from Beaver Creek
near Fertile to the Shell Rock River near Rockford.

* WHEN...From this afternoon to early Friday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 12.0 feet, Widespread flooding occurs along the
river. Some backwater effects are possible along Willow Creek
between downtown Mason City and the confluence with the Winnebago
river.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:45 AM CDT Monday the stage was 9.6 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
this afternoon to a crest of 11.9 feet early tomorrow
afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday
evening.
- Flood stage is 10.0 feet.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

State law requires life jackets on every watercraft, whether it’s a motorized boat, jet ski, kayak, canoe, or even a paddleboard. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 87% of drowning victims who died from a boating accident were not wearing their life jackets. The best way to be “saved by the jacket” is to wear it at all times, no matter your level of swimming or boating expertise.
