Northville Fire-Rescue Explorer Post 1717

Northville Fire-Rescue Explorer Post 1717 For individuals age 14-20 who are interested in and want to learn about firefighting and Emergency Medical Services. Regular meetings are twice a month.

The City of Northville Fire Department charters and operates a Fire-Rescue Explorer program. The program, started in 1994 is for individuals 14-20 who are interested in and want to learn about firefighting and EMS. We are chartered through Learning-for-Life’s Explorer program (a division of Boy Scouts of America), members of the National Volunteer Fire Council’s National Junior Firefighter program

and Fire Corps. Additional meetings are often held to cover special topics. Explorers are involved with planning and implementing training. We are often assisted by firefighters from surrounding communities to get a broader range of training. Approximately 80% of our Explorers go on to a career or have some involvement in the fire service when they become adults. Many of our graduates give back to the group by becoming involved as Advisors and mentors once they become firefighters. Explorer post 1717 is a non-funded, self-supporting program. Explorer post operations are not budgeted or funded by the City or Fire Department. No taxes support the program. All Post operations are funded through donations and fundraising.

After 20 years of dedicated service with the City of Northville Fire Department & Explorer Post 1717, we want to congratulate Firefighter Chris Petres as he moves on to his next chapter.

FF Petres first began his fire service journey as a member of Explorer Post 1717, and throughout his career he has continued that tradition by mentoring and guiding the next generation of firefighters.

Thank you for your commitment to the fire service and the community you’ve served for over two decades. We wish you the very best in the future and in whatever comes next.

Congratulations and good luck, Chris!

Explorer Post 1717 took part in the annual mock disaster drill at the Monroe County Fair Grounds. This large scale training exercise allows Explorers to practice the skills they have learned over the past year. The Explorers encounter scenarios that include vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, structure fires, and car fires. Fire and Police Explorer programs throughout the area work together to handle the incidents.

Our Post worked along side:
Monroe Charter Township Fire Department Cadets Program
Bedford Fire Explorers
Dearborn Police Explorer Post 1177

While tornadoes can occur during any time of the year, they are especially common during the late spring and early summer months.

To test your readiness, Michiganders are encouraged to participate in the voluntary statewide tornado drill at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19.
