Did you know Johnson Creek is a Type 1 trout stream?

That means special Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulations help protect this stream and preserve healthy trout populations for the future.

To advance local conservation efforts, Northville Parks and Recreation recently partnered with the Paul H. Young Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Together with Trout Unlimited and the Michigan DNR, new educational signage has been installed at Fish Hatchery Park and Coldwater Springs Nature Area to highlight the importance of protecting this unique natural resource in Northville.

Thank you to Tom Borda and Mike Shaw with Trout Unlimited. Additional thanks to Mayor Turnbull from City of Northville, Michigan - Government for speaking about the history of Fish Hatchery Park and the important role Johnson Creek plays in local trout populations.

Our Zumba Gold class had some special surprise visitors!

Instructor Cheryl Caudill welcomed her family all the way from Germany. During a recent Friday class, Zumba Gold participants performed a dance set to the German song "Für immer Frühling," which means "Forever Spring."

Music and dance have a special way of bringing people together and we are so happy Cheryl, her family and the other members of Zumba Gold got to experience this moment together!

For the first time in decades, the Rouge River is back in the open.

River Park, located within the Downs development near downtown Northville, is bringing new life to this area by restoring a natural waterway that had long been hidden. The result is a space that will connect people to nature, the river, and the outdoors in a whole new way.

While the park is not yet open, we are getting close. An official opening announcement is planned for later this June, so stay tuned.

Thank you for your patience as work continues. There is more to come, and it is going to be worth the wait.

As Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month comes to a close, we want to recognize and celebrate the programs that help connect our community to diverse cultures and traditions through movement, learning, and wellness.

This spring, participants have enjoyed the energy of BollyX, a Bollywood-inspired fitness program, along with our Polynesian dance offerings, including Hawaiian Hula for Health, Hula & Maori, and Keiki & Me. Hoaloha Polynesian Dance Group

These classes provide opportunities to stay active, learn something new, and build connections while experiencing cultural traditions from around the world.

BollyX continues as an ongoing drop-in program. Our hula classes will begin one more session in early June before taking a short break during July and August, returning in September.

Thank you to our instructors and participants for helping create welcoming spaces where culture, wellness, and community come together.
