One or more clusters of thunderstorms are expected to develop northwest of Alabama and move southward into portions of Central Alabama. The National Weather Service has upgraded northwest Alabama to a Level 2 of 5 (Slight Risk) for severe weather, with a Level 1 of 5 (Marginal Risk) elsewhere across Central Alabama. While the exact timing and location of the strongest storms remain uncertain, damaging straight-line winds are the primary threat and could result in downed trees and power lines due to saturated soils from recent rainfall and weakened root systems from preceding drought conditions. Large hail is also possible but is considered a secondary threat.
