🚨 IMPORTANT PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE: Tuscaloosa County EMA New Emergency Alerting System 🚨

Starting June 19, 2026, a new statewide platform, RAVE Alert, will officially replace our current Everbridge system (TuscALERT). This upgrade brings modern, faster, and more reliable technology to deliver critical notifications directly to you when it matters most.
📲 WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
- Beginning today, June 12, residents currently receiving alerts through TuscALERT are encouraged to check their email for important transition information.
- Follow the instructions provided in that email to complete your registration in the new system so your alerts continue seamlessly.
The new system will enable Tuscaloosa County EMA and our public safety partners to quickly distribute urgent alerts regarding:
⛈️ Severe weather warnings
⚠️ Public safety emergencies
🗺️ Evacuation and shelter information
🔍 Missing persons alerts and other critical incident notifications.

The West Alabama Area Agency on Aging recently hosted its Quarterly Center Manager Training, bringing together senior center managers and coordinators from all seven counties we proudly serve—along with a few special guests!
This impactful training featured valuable sessions on:
✨ Elderly Nutrition Program Updates
✨ Menu Development with the Alabama Department of Senior Services – Andrea Carter, MS, RDN, Alabama Department of Senior Services
✨ Participant Engagement & Grant Opportunities – Karen Lewis and Mayor Hattie Samuels – Boligee Senior Activity Center
✨ Caring Days Adult Day Care – LaDerrick Smith, Program Director

A special highlight of the event was celebrating excellence in our network 👑
Congratulations to Lindsey Davis, Center manager of the Moundville Senior Center, who was crowned Queen of the Center – Summer 2026! Lindsey earned this recognition by quadrupling attendance at her center through creative outreach and engaging daily activities for participants.

To wrap up the training, center managers enjoyed a fun round of trivia focused on the Elderly Nutrition Program. Winners took home a variety of games—generously provided by the University of Alabama Office of Student Conduct—to bring even more fun back to their centers!

Do you know how to read a Medicare statement? If you don’t, this is a great time to learn!
Reading your Medicare statements that come in the mail every 180 days or anytime online at Medicare.gov is a great way to find and report suspected fraud. If you suspect fraud on your statement, call SMP at 205-333-2990 ext 214.

Ring, ring--- it’s a cold caller wanting you to switch your Medicare plan right now. The pressure is on but you did not initiate this phone call. Something feels off. You might be offered “free” products like back or knee braces, food, or cash in exchange for your Medicare number. That’s a scam. Hang up!
