🚒🛡️ The Probationary Shield is Off! 🛡️🚒

We are proud to announce that Firefighter/Paramedics Akamont Anantachai and Charles Conn have successfully completed their one-year probation and were recently sworn in as permanent members of the Northlake Fire Protection District! 🎖️🙌

The first year is a rigorous test of skill, dedication, and teamwork. Both Akamont and Charles have proven they have what it takes to protect and serve the residents of Northlake at the highest level. ⚖️💪

The ceremony was a special moment shared with our Fire Chief, the Board of Trustees, and the family members who have supported them throughout this journey.

The Northlake Fire Protection District is heartbroken to share the news of a tragic residential fire that occurred early this morning at 74 West Drive.

Despite the swift response and best efforts of our Firefighter / Paramedics and neighboring agencies, we are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of two members of our community, Susan Palos and Maricarmen Wilkerson.

There are no words to ease the pain of such a profound loss. On behalf of every member of the Northlake Fire Protection District, we extend our most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and neighbors affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

We also want to thank the Northlake Police Department and the surrounding fire departments for their assistance on the scene.

Yesterday morning, our crew had the absolute pleasure of attending the First Responders Breakfast at St. John Vianney Catholic School.

The students did an incredible job preparing a delicious breakfast for us and our partners at the Police Department and other local agencies. It was such a treat to spend time with the kids, see the amazing banners they made for us, and feel the support of the SJV community! ❤️🚒👮‍♂️

A huge thank you to the students, teachers, and staff at St. John Vianney for honoring us. Your kindness and appreciation mean the world to our Firefighter/Paramedics!

❄️🚨 ARCTIC BLAST ALERT: HIGHS NEAR 0°F 🚨❄️

Northlake, it is going to be dangerously cold tomorrow. With highs struggling to reach 0 degrees, our Firefighter/Paramedics want to make sure you stay safe. Please keep these "Big Four" tips in mind:

🔥 SPACE HEATERS: Give them space! Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from bedding, curtains, and furniture. Always plug them directly into the wall—never use an extension cord or power strip. 🔌🔥
🧊 WATCH FOR ICE: At these temperatures, salt often stops working. Be extremely careful on stairs and sidewalks—black ice is a major cause of fall-related injuries and EMS calls. 🧊🚑
🧣 MEDICAL SAFETY: Frostbite can happen in minutes. If you must go out, cover all exposed skin. Avoid overexertion while shoveling; extreme cold narrows blood vessels and puts extra strain on your heart. ❤️🧣
🚨 CO AWARENESS: Never use your oven or a charcoal grill for heat. Ensure your Carbon Monoxide detectors are working and that your furnace vents are clear of snow. 🚨

Having successfully completed his requirements and demonstrated his dedication to the residents of Northlake, Wilson stood before our Board of Trustees this week to take his oath of office. ⚖️💪

Throughout the holiday season, you'll see a wreath illuminated outside our firehouse — glowing bright red 24/7.

But this wreath is more than just decoration — it's a symbol of safety. If a fire occurs in our community caused by holiday decorations, one red bulb will be replaced with a white bulb. Each white bulb serves as a powerful reminder of how quickly festive moments can turn dangerous.

Let’s work together to keep the wreath red all season long:
✅ Water live Christmas trees daily
✅ Keep candles away from flammable items
✅ Don’t overload outlets or extension cords
✅ Never leave lights or decorations on unattended

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and while we’re all looking forward to good food and family time, let’s make sure it’s a safe holiday too!

🚫 Never put a frozen turkey in a deep fryer — it can cause the oil to splatter or even explode, leading to serious burns or a fire.

💨 With strong winds today, please keep outdoor fryers far from your home, garage, or anything flammable. Wind can carry heat and flames farther than you expect.

✅ Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from hot surfaces
✅ Don’t leave cooking unattended — especially when frying or broiling
✅ Have a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it

This week, we proudly celebrated the official swearing-in of Firefighter/Paramedics Joseph Kowalski and Joseph Scheidt, who have successfully completed their one-year probation with the Northlake Fire Protection District.

Fire Chief Paul Feldman administered the oath, marking their transition into full-time duty — and a lifelong commitment to protecting the lives of our Northlake residents. These brave men stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice, knowing they may one day risk their own lives to save another.

This week, our crew visited Roy School to talk with the Kindergarten classes about staying safe in an emergency. We covered everything from "Stop, Drop & Roll" to what to do if you see smoke — and they had some amazing questions! 🙋‍♀️🔥
