Residents,

As we near the end of the contractual period of Argyle police services for Belmont FWSD 2, we wanted to provide you with resources for public safety within the district.

At the February meeting for the Town of Argyle, the Town Council voted to end the agreement between Belmont FWSD 2 and the Town of Argyle for police patrols and services within the residential portion of the district. This came after the Board of Supervisors for Belmont FWSD 2 voted not to enter a 30 year contractual agreement that dramatically raised prices for residents within our community. The new contract would have gone from $228.98 per household to $1,790.45 per household.

Because of this, Argyle PD will no longer serve the residential portion of Belmont FWSD 2. This includes regular patrols, vacation watch programs, and non emergency calls. Starting on June 1, 2026 the Denton County Sheriff's Office will assume the responsibility of patrols and non-emergency response within the district.

You can reach the Denton County Sheriff by calling 940-349-1600. You can also learn more about the Office by visiting their website.

Please note: While the non-emergency number for police has changed for Belmont 2, any emergency should be reported to 911. Emergency calls made to 911 are routed to the closest available officer, regardless of jurisdiction. This means that if you are experiencing an emergency, a Denton County Sheriff, Argyle Police Officer, or Northlake Police Officer may respond. Please call 911 if you are experiencing an emergency.

An update on police services.

Electric bikes, scooters, mopeds, and other electric vehicles are becoming more common in our area — and with that comes important safety rules.

We’ve put together a graphic outlining the requirements for different types of electric vehicles, including where they can be ridden, and whether a license or registration is required.

Take a moment to review the graphic and help us keep our roads and sidewalks safe for everyone.
