At 1715 hours, personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Mill Road and Wabash Avenue for a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Car 61, Rescue 62, Ladder 63, and Engine 64 responded and arrived to find a two-vehicle collision with one occupant trapped.

The new rescue tools, which members trained on last evening, combined with existing equipment, were used to extricate the patient and provide access to secure power on both vehicles, bringing the incident quickly under control. Fire Department EMTs provided patient care until a second ambulance arrived on scene.

Continued training, updated equipment, and interagency cooperation provide for efficient and effective on-scene operations.

Last evening, volunteer and career members attended the first of two training sessions on our new Holmatro rescue tools in preparation for placing them into service.

🚁 **Landing Zone Assignment**

At 10:55 AM, personnel were dispatched to the Stork Army Reserve Center to establish a landing zone for JeffSTAT. After clearing a previous incident, Engine 65, Utility 66, and Ladder 63 responded and secured the landing zone.

JeffSTAT 4 landed safely; however, EMS later determined that air medical transport was not needed. JeffSTAT 4 was released and departed the scene without incident.

Delivery day for our new rescue tools. After hands-on demonstrations, Holmatro was chosen to upgrade our 1990s technology tools purchased in the early 2000s. The new tools are capable of cutting through modern high-strength metals that the old ones could not.
Being battery-powered frees up space on the apparatus and allows tools to go into remote areas without the need to extend hydraulic cables.
Continued upgrades and modernization would not be possible without the support of our citizens and elected officials.

This morning, volunteer, career, and auxiliary members gathered at Northfield Veterans Park for the annual Memorial Day service.
Memorial Day is not just a day for parties, barbecues, and the unofficial start of summer. It is a solemn reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by the men and women of our military throughout the 250 years of our nation’s existence.
Today, we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country so that we may continue to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

This evening, members of the City of Northfield Fire Department will be conducting training on water supply operations using our 5-inch supply line from the Yale School back to Station #2. As a result, traffic patterns on Burton Avenue will be affected.

Access to Burton Avenue from Tilton Road will be closed, requiring motorists to access Burton Avenue from Mill Road. Burton will remain open traveling from Mill road to Tilton Road.

Residents of Herzel Drive will still be able to access their neighborhood from either Banning Avenue or Mill Road.

This drill is conducted every 2–3 years, allowing our members to gain and maintain proficiency in large-diameter supply line operations.
