The Village sends a heartfelt congratulations to the mastermind behind Peachtree Place, Lucy Callahan, on her retirement! We also congratulate Peachtree’s long-time manager, Monica Williams, for purchasing the business and carrying on Lucy’s legacy 🎉🎉

What do I say after 41 years? That you have been the best coworkers and customers I could have ever hoped for - so many of you have become dear friends. Yes, it's time for me to retire and I have such mixed emotions. But, the good news is... Peachtree Place will go on! Monica, who has been my wonderful manager has purchased the business. We have worked together very closely for over 20 years. She has a beautiful eye and she will carry on in the very best of ways. I know you all will support her and I am excited for her to bring new energy for the future.

My heart is full and I want to thank you for being the best part of my 41 year journey!

I am planning to move to Georgia in the next couple of months and will be in and out of Northfield until then. I hope our paths will cross!

To you and your families, thank you, thank you, thank you...

XOXO,
Lucy

This May and June, the Village Hall Art Gallery will feature work by Northfielder Carolyn Topel, Diane Hamlin, and Jane Hamlin.

🎨 Carolyn Topel has taken classes at the Evanston Art Center and the North Shore Art League but found her community at the Northfield Senior Center’s Art Workshop. Though she has tried acrylic and oil, she prefers watercolor for its transparency. After setting art aside for a nursing career, she returned to painting in retirement and now enjoys both the creative problem-solving and the shared experience of painting with others.

🎨 Diane Hamlin, a Northfield native, loved art from a young age but spent her career as a Chicago public school teacher, later working in a correctional facility. She turned to painting just before COVID as a way to process life changes. After returning to the North Shore in 2023, she reconnected with art, taking classes and painting weekly with her mom (fellow exhibitor, Jane Hamlin), valuing both the friendships and fulfillment it brings.

🎨 Jane Hamlin lived in Northfield for over 50 years and fondly remembers a simpler time of open fields, horseback riders along Sunset Ridge Road, and a close-knit community where children walked to school and gathered at Clarkson Park for skating in the winter and day camp in the summer. Though she studied art at Purdue, she focused on family and later became a teacher, sharing her creativity with students. In 2023, she began watercolor painting and now enjoys it as a meaningful form of expression and connection.

You can view their exhibit any time the Village Hall is open, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM.
