24 year veteran Robert Kilduff of the Boston Fire Department was killed while battling a three-alarm fire in Dorchester last night.

During suppression efforts Robert fell from the third floor and sustained life threatening injuries where he was then transported and pronounced at a local hospital.

Robert was one of the best they said.

Local 108 is keeping our brothers and sisters at Local 718, the Boston Fire Department, and most importantly Roberts family in our thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.

May he forever be in our hearts.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is celebrated annually during the second full week of April (April 12-18, 2026) to honor our dispatchers who answer 911 calls, non emergent calls, dispatch emergency personnel, monitor multiple channels, and provide critical support in response efforts. Initiated in 1981, this week recognizes the dedication of telecommunications personnel who serve 24/7 365 days a year.

Northampton Firefighters would like to take a moment to honor Northampton Public Safety Dispatchers, as well as all communications staff within the emergency response system.

Thank you!

Northampton Firefighters are sending thoughts and prayers to Nick and his family during these difficult times.

Nick was a part of support staff at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy when he sustained serious injuries after falling from the 4th floor of a training building.

Please keep Nick and his family in your thoughts as he fights his way through recovery.

Nick Spinale, 28, and member of Chelmsford Local 1839 for two and a half years, was injured on Tuesday morning during the performance of his duties, training other firefighters. Nick fell approximately 40 feet from a window and sustained multiple serious injuries, including facial fractures, severe internal organ damage, and fractures to both wrists. He faces a long road to recovery, including several surgeries to fix his injuries.

Today marks a milestone for the staffing of apparatus and the service levels provided by members of Northampton Firefighters Local 108.

The Department is now staffing our ladder truck, Truck 1, and will not have to rely on an ambulance crew to cross staff the apparatus. This change adds two more firefighters per shift and brings our minimum staffing to 15 members. This dramatically increases the amount of time that Truck 1 and supporting units are available to respond to calls, allows for higher levels of service for fire and rescue-related incidents, and will also decrease our dependence on surrounding towns for mutual aid during periods of high call volume.

We sincerely thank Mayor Gina Louise Sciarra and the members of city council for ensuring that we are taking steps towards proper staffing of our department.

The members of Local 108 are proud to provide the highest level of fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services possible to the community here in Northampton.
