North Wilkesboro Celebrates Independence Day with Marketplace Meltdown and America 250 Festivities
NORTH WILKESBORO, NC — The Town of North Wilkesboro invites residents and visitors to join a full evening of patriotic celebration on Saturday, July 4, featuring the return of Marketplace Meltdown with additional America 250 activities.
The celebration begins at 11:00 AM at the Liberty Theatre with a free screening of the film “The American Miracle,” presented by the Rendezvous Mountain Chapter DAR. At 2:00 PM in Wilkesboro, the Charters of Freedom Dedication Ceremony will take place at Town Hall. Also in Wilkesboro at 2:00 PM, the Performing Arts Conservatory’s "The Children's Pageant for Children" will be presented at the Wilkes Heritage Museum. The Celebrate America 250 Parade will begin at 4:00 PM and travel from Wilkesboro into North Wilkesboro.
Marketplace Meltdown will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Yadkin Valley Marketplace (842 CBD Loop, North Wilkesboro). This year’s celebration will feature live music from Jordan Pickett, food trucks, beverages sold on-site, a free face painter, a balloon artist, and a bubbler, America 250 exhibits, educational presentations, and activities. Guests can enjoy exhibits, including the Wilkes Heritage Museum, the Rendezvous Mountain Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Rendezvous Mountain, the Wilkes County Public Library, the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Wilkes Genealogical Society, and more. At 8:00 PM, enjoy the community favorite Firetruck Parade as local first responders roll through downtown with lights, sirens, and patriotic spirit.
The evening concludes at 9:00 PM with a special performance by the America 250 Choir and the Wilkes Symphony Orchestra at the Historic Train Depot, followed by a fireworks display over downtown North Wilkesboro. Hot dogs and ice cream will be sold on site at the Depot.
