Wawasee Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd, due to arctic weather conditions. Forecasted temperatures are not expected to be above 2-3°, and wind chills are expected to remain around -20° throughout the day.

I want to take a moment to remind you about Indiana’s state regulations regarding eLearning days, and what that means for our district moving forward.

Indiana law allows school districts to use only three traditional eLearning days per year. Tomorrow will be our 3rd.

Any additional weather-related closures will require us to shift to live virtual learning (synchronous learning), where students will be expected to attend live instruction virtually during the school day, on their devices. Building principals have been and will be communicating with you on ParentSquare regarding plans for these virtual learning days. With cold / winter weather expected through early next week, we may be impacted for a few days moving forward.

I want to make sure to explain that these eLearning and virtual learning days are necessary to avoid extending the school year at the end of the year. If we don't use these now, we would have to add days on in May / June.

We will keep you updated on any changes and provide clear instructions if there are additional weather-related closures beyond tomorrow.

Student devices have been sent home with students today.

Finally, for those parents of 3rd graders - - the circus trip is cancelled for tomorrow. We will work with other Kosciusko County Schools and the Shriners on a plan to send both 3rd and 4th grade students next year.
