⚠️ COMMUNITY SAFETY ALERT ⚠️

The Police Department is aware of some high school students participating in a game commonly referred to as “Senior Assassin.”

While intended as a game, this activity poses serious safety risks. Last night, an incident related to this activity occurred at a local business. Behavior associated with this game, including approaching individuals unexpectedly, chasing, or using objects that may resemble weapons can easily be mistaken for a real and immediate threat.

Across the country, there have been tragic incidents where individuals participating in similar activities have been confronted by armed citizens or others who believed they were facing a real threat, resulting in serious injury and death.

In today’s climate, these situations can result in emergency calls, rapid police response, and potentially dangerous outcomes for everyone involved.

Please keep in mind that that the public and responding officers do not know this is a game. Actions taken during this activity may be perceived as criminal behavior and participants may face criminal charges depending on the circumstances.

The school district is aware of the situation and we are in close contact with school administrators. However, they do not have authority over student conduct outside of school hours.

We are asking parents to speak with their children about the risks involved and to discourage participation in this activity.

If this behavior continues and creates a risk to the public, enforcement action will be taken.

Our priority is, and will always be, the safety of our community.

On February 20, 2026, the East McKeesport Police Department and Eastern Area EMS were dispatched by Allegheny County 911 regarding a 7 month old who had drowned.

The baby was pulseless and breathless. The highly trained Allegheny County 911 telecommunications officers, while simultaneously sending first responders, gave instructions to the baby’s mother, who was able to begin life saving measures.

Responding police officers included East McKeesport Police Sergeant Hess and North Versailles Police Sergeant Vince DiCenzo.

Both police officers administered CPR on the baby while awaiting EMS, and eventually transferred care to the expert hands of the United Fire Department, Eastern Area EMS and UPMC prehospital care personnel.

The baby was transported by ambulance to Forbes Regional Hospital for emergency care and then flown to UPMC Children’s.

After recovering, today the baby is 9 months old and thriving, all due to the life saving efforts of ALL of these heroes.

Tonight, along with all of the other heroes, our own Sergeant DiCenzo was honored at the East McKeesport council meeting by Allegheny County Councilwoman Michelle Naccarati-Chapkis, Senator Nick Picsottano, State Representative Brandon Markosek and UPMC for their efforts.

If you don’t know CPR, please find a class near you!

🚧 Traffic Advisory – Third Street (North Versailles) 🚧

New traffic control signs are now in place on Third Street at Lincoln Highway.

➡️ Third Street is now ONE-WAY (away from Lincoln Highway toward Jamison Street)

🚫 No vehicle entry onto Lincoln Highway from Third Street

Why the change?
This intersection has been identified as a high-risk area due to heavy traffic (approx. 35,000 vehicles/day), limited visibility from nearby signal backups, and safety concerns involving turning vehicles, trucks, and an adjacent daycare.

What this means for drivers:

You can no longer exit Third Street onto Lincoln Highway
Use Jamison Street → Edward Street or Taylor Street to access the highway.

Follow all posted signs and traffic flow changes.

This adjustment is a low-cost, high-impact safety improvement designed to reduce crash risk and protect drivers, pedestrians, and families in the area.

Please use caution and expect an adjustment period as drivers get used to the new pattern. 🚔
