Garbage Truck Fire Today – Safety Reminder

CTVFD responded to a garbage truck fire this afternoon caused by something placed in the household trash that ignited inside the load. The truck itself did not catch fire, but the trash had to be dumped in the roadway so crews could extinguish the burning material.

We want to remind everyone: please be careful about what you place in your trash. Items like hot ashes, chemicals, batteries, oily rags, and other heat‑producing materials can start fires inside garbage trucks and endanger workers and the public.

Update: Highway is back open for the time being, some vehicles have been left and will be removed when conditions improve. Please travel safely and do not drive through water.

**URGENT** US HWY 50 East between Butlerville and Nebraska is closed indefinitely due to high flood waters, please avoid the area as further rainfall will compound these conditions throughout the day.

We’re grateful for one of our strongest community partners, the Decatur County REMC Operation Roundup Program. Their generous $2,500 grant will help Campbell Township Volunteer Fire Department purchase essential rope rescue equipment. This investment directly strengthens our ability to serve and protect the people of Campbell Township and the surrounding area.
