Have you seen this sticker when paying at the grocery store?
This important sticker, which bears the name of the County’s Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures, validates that the price scanner has been inspected by County staff to make sure you are charged the correct price.
Last year, our inspectors registered over 205,500 commercial devices throughout Orange County.
The Weights and Measures Program, an important part of OC Public Works that protects consumers, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all weighing and measuring devices used commercially in Orange County. The devices are tested for accuracy and inspected to determine if they are appropriate for their intended use. Our inspectors also respond to consumer complaints and provide outreach, education, and training to both the public and regulated industries.
If the scanners are inaccurate, consumers and businesses can both lose money.
Our Weights & Measures team also inspects gasoline dispensers, propane dispensers, delivery truck meters, taxi meters and commercially-used scales.
If you see that sticker, you can rest assured that it was inspected and working properly.
