High level clouds will increase tonight through the day Monday. It will be highly unlikely that the higher level clouds will completely obscure the sky. On the dark side, an area of thicker low to mid level clouds will spread across WNY and the Genesee Valley which may be thick enough to obscure the sun. On the bright side, some breaks in cloud cover may be possible, making viewing the eclipse possible. Stay tuned to Monday morning’s forecast!

A very active week of weather for us, mainly centered on a strong cold front that will sweep through the region Wednesday afternoon. It will feel like two very different seasons ahead and behind this front, with multiple hazards possible.

Ahead of the cold front Tuesday into Wednesday:
🌡️ Record warmth with highs in the 60s
🌬️ Breezy southerly winds with gusts to 40mph possible
⛈️ Widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, then again late Tuesday into Wednesday morning

Behind the front Wednesday afternoon into Thursday:
🌡️📉 Temps plummet, rain changes to snow with a possible flash freeze on the roads
🌬️ Winds turn westerly and further strengthen with gusts to 50mph possible
❄️ Lake effect snow develops southeast of the lakes, especially southeast of Lake Ontario

The next round of heavy lake effect snow is set to impact areas east and northeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario later today through Thursday. Localized event total snowfall amounts of 1-2 feet plus will impact similar areas that just received heavy snow from the recent storm.
