I believe that this city needs transparency and a fresh perspective if we truly want to see growth. In order to see a change we must be the change. Chris Switzer is hitting the nail on the head, growth will come from a change in leadership and a community that is focused on change.
I hear a lot of folks saying it’s our elected leadership’s fault for the current and old climate of Terre Haute and Vigo County. I too once said that. Not liking the leadership my Councilman provided, I got involved. Now as a councilman, I get to see things from both perspectives. I see my job not only as councilman, but as a provider. I need to be a creator. I need to be a leader. I need to offer transparency. I need to stay committed to providing you with the best chance to be successful. I need to spend your tax dollars effectively and efficiently. With big decisions in our future, I need your help...
There are seven Vigo County Council-members. There are three Vigo County Commissioners. There are nine Terre Haute City Council-members. We have one mayor of Terre Haute. That’s a total of 20 elected people representing a community of 106,000. This is nothing unusual. In fact, in some communities our size, there are fewer elected people representing the same population or more.
I need you to be positive and become informed. I need you to attend meetings and ask questions. I need you to comment twice positively when someone writes something negative on social media. I need you to pick up litter. I need you to pick up your neighbors litter. I need you to be proud. I need you to have pride in yourself, your home and your work. Even with electing good or better leadership, our community has to want to be better as much as the person elected does. This isn’t going to take a few of us, this is going to take all of us. In order to be a happier community, a desirable place to live, a prospective place for future employment. We have to show and prove that we are a county ready to work, ready to dig in and ready to rise to the occasion.
If you’re willing to rise up and be a leader in our community. Share this. Give reasons why you stayed in Vigo County. Tell us what you want Vigo County to be in the next few years. Will you help us get there or will you sit idle? I challenge you to dig deep and want more.
