A North Carolina man is wanted in Tazewell for Grand Larceny. The Tazewell Virginia Police Department filed charges today for Christopher Neil Coughenour of Gold Hill, North Carolina for the theft of a 2011 Caterpillar 305.5 DCR excavator stolen from the 1500 block of Fairgrounds Road, Tazewell late Wednesday night, July 01, 2026. The accused is described as a male white, 6’04”, 160 lbs, brown eyes, and brown hair. Three other persons of interest have been identified as possibly conspirators. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending. The agency thanks Bluefield Police Department, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cabarrus County, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office for their assistance as well as information provided by the public.

In honor of Justin Winingham (December 5, 2017-September 2, 2026), son of Randall & Melinda Winingham, the Tazewell Police Department wore yellow today. Justin was a second grade student at Tazewell Primary School (TPS) and his favorite color was yellow. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Justin's family & friends.
