⚠️ SCAM ALERT: Fake Fire Inspection Equipment Sales
We have received reports of an ongoing scam targeting local businesses. Scammers are falsely claiming to represent the local fire department and stating that an inspection is scheduled to take place soon. Business owners are being told they must purchase:
• Three (3) fire extinguishers
• Three (3) smoke detectors
These items are allegedly to be shipped via FedEx. Victims are being instructed to make three separate payments using Bitcoin in order to "pass the inspection."
This is a scam.
Fire prevention bureaus in Rhode Island never sell fire safety equipment.
Please remember:
• No fire department will demand payment via cryptocurrency.
• Fire safety equipment is not sold directly through local fire departments.
• Legitimate inspections are always scheduled through official communication and include proper identification.
If you are contacted with a similar request:
• Do not send any money or provide personal information.
• Report the incident immediately to your local police department.
• For any questions or concerns, contact your local fire department and speak directly with the Fire Marshal.
Stay vigilant and help spread the word to protect our community.
