Yesterday North Smithfield Fire held live burn training for our newest recruits and new officers. This training is invaluable for our members. Training with live fire is the best chance to train and learn for real world events.

We had three members attended the "Understanding Tenable Space" training on September 6th sponsored by Mission CIT. The training consisted of a classroom style presentation that covered building construction, fire behavior and firefighter survival skills. After the presentation the class participated in live fire training in Mission CIT's Class A Live Fire Trailer. The training involved multiple evolutions of exposure to live fire events to better understand how fire reacts in a vent-controlled environment. The class was able to experience fire behavior firsthand including rollover, limited visibility, high heat and the stages of tenable space to better understand how to operate safely in these types of situations and make mission critical decisions when operating during aggressive fire attack ahead of a hoseline.
