One week is not enough time to show appreciation for our members. However, as EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, we must acknowledge a final recipient of EMS Week Spotlights.
Dr. David Janese officially began with Shreveport Fire Department in 2022 and serves as Chief Medical Director for Shreveport Fire Department. Dr. Janese also serves as an Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director at the department of Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport.
Chief of EMS George Alamond writes, "Dr. Janese sets the bar for excellence day in and day out, serving as a pillar of support, education, and advancement for all members of the Shreveport Fire Department. Despite his demanding role as a physician, Dr. Janese is constantly in the loop regarding the EMTS and Paramedics on the operational line. He takes the time to get to know each individual personally, creating an approachable environment where personnel feel comfortable and supported.
As a lead EMS Instructor, he champions educational opportunities such as PHTLS, AMLS, and other clinical courses to ensure SFD maintains the highest standards of clinical excellence. He is also a visionary leader, working with the EMS Office to develop multiple programs that provide our members with unique opportunities to advance their careers in the EMS world. Furthermore, he utilizes his vast medical knowledge to assist the Shreveport Police Department with critical medical training, strengthening public safety across agencies. Through his dedication to mentorship, education, and professional development, Dr. Janese embodies true leadership."
Fire Chief Clarence Reese, Jr. says, "What makes his leadership truly unique is that he has personally worked in the back of an ambulance as a paramedic before becoming a physician. Because of that experience, he understands exactly what our EMTs and paramedics face in the field every day; the difficult decisions, the high-pressure situations, and the need for proper training, equipment, and resources when caring for critically ill and injured patients.
Dr. Janese continuously volunteers his time, knowledge, and resources to support our 500+ member department and ensure our personnel are prepared to provide the highest level of care possible. His professionalism, commitment, and hands-on involvement with our members have earned him tremendous respect throughout the Shreveport Fire Department.
We are truly blessed to have Dr. Janese serving alongside our department. Because of his dedication, our personnel are better trained, better equipped, and more confident in the field, and the citizens of Shreveport are better served because of it.
