Construction Update No. 003-1: Site 3 - Route 116 bridge over the Titicus River

Greetings,

As the Route 116 Bridge replacement project progresses, the Contractor is shifting from Stage 1 (Eastbound) to Stage 2 (Westbound) construction.

Here are the key details for tomorrow's traffic switch:

• When: Tomorrow, May 21st, 2026, at 11:00 am
• Duration: Approximately 15 minutes
• Traffic Pattern: Alternating single-lane traffic controlled by temporary signals. The new alignment will remain highly similar to Stage 1 layout.

Town of North Salem is seeking a computer literate, people-oriented individual for a full-time position as Secretary – Zoning Board of Appeals. Under day-to-day supervision of the Building Inspector, candidate will perform administrative, clerical, and record keeping duties calling for confidentiality and the use of independent judgment. The position requires interaction with applicants, professionals, attorneys, the public and members of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Candidate must be available to attend evening meetings as required, usually 1 to 4 times per month

5/24 UPDATE - Due to the weather, the parade portion of Memorial Day Ceremony has been canceled. Please join us at Croton Falls Fire Department (1 Sun Valley Drive) to honor the men and women who gave their lives serving our country. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 AM. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

The North Salem American Legion Post 1866 would like to invite you to participate in the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday May 25, 2026.

Found dog...Italian Maremma Sheepdog. Does anybody know who this dog belongs to? Found on a farm on Grant Road. Please call the Town Clerk's Office at 914-669-5577. If not claimed, it will be turned into Guardian Animal Veterinary Hospital. The owner will need to pay a $50 impoundment fee to the Town, prove the dog is licensed, then pay Guardian for any care provided to the dog.

Candlewood Water District Leak Update

The the line on Morris road has been repaired. The leak on Stephens/Valeria has also just been repaired. A small section of that pipe was removed and replaced with new pipe. In both locations, we are adding a clean out flushing hydrant so that we can always run the water through the line to clean sediment out of the pipe.

The water should be coming on in the next 30 minutes. They are turning it on slowly so that no pipes burst from the water coming down the hill and compressing air at the bottom. That causes high "dynamic pressure" and can blow a line.

Candlewood Water District Leak Update.

Due to ongoing work to repair a leak, the water will be off for a time, exactly how long is unknown. VRI continues to dig along the galvanized pipe, but the pipe they have exposed so far is not strong enough to repair. Many of the residents in the district have water however people along Morris and the northern section of Valeria do not.

2026 Annual Roadside Clean-up!

The Town of North Salem Conservation Advisory Council in conjunction with the town’s Climate Smart Community Leadership Committee will sponsor this year’s ANNUAL ROADSIDE CLEAN-UP and E- WASTE Drop-Off. Come pick up your orange bags for collecting litter. We will have a map of the town so that you can highlight the roads where you will tackle the litter. Our goal is to have all roadsides cleared of litter by Earth Day, Wednesday April 22.
