Old cruiser 79 headed off to Poland yesterday. Not the Poland near Youngstown, the Poland near Germany. We never know where our old stuff will end up when we sell it on GovDeals.com. We'll have some new listings soon so keep an eye out.

Following up on our previous post, the best graphic we found comes from our friends at the Medina Police Department. It covers all the information for each category of e-bike. Thank you to MPD.

🚨 E-BIKES & SCOOTERS: WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW 🚨

We have recently seen an increase in incidents involving electric scooters, e-bikes, and similar motorized devices throughout the City of Medina — many involving juveniles. Before purchasing one of these devices for your child, we encourage parents to familiarize themselves with the laws, safety requirements, and where these vehicles can legally be operated.

Please review our Quick Guide for a breakdown of the different classes of e-bikes, scooters, and e-motorcycles, including:
• Speed limits
• Helmet requirements
• Licensing requirements
• Where they can legally be ridden
• Lighting requirements

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER ⚠️
No person shall ride or operate a bicycle, skateboard, moped, motorized vehicle, motorcycle, or any other toy vehicle upon any public sidewalk within a ONE BLOCK radius of Medina Public Square. This includes electric scooters and e-bikes.

Parents — please know what your child is riding and where they are riding it. Many of these devices can reach significant speeds and may not be legal for juvenile operation depending on the type of vehicle.

Help us keep everyone safe while enjoying these devices responsibly.

We've had a lot of comments/questions/concerns about e-bikes and e-scooters. The simplest explanation is that they must be operated the same as regular bicycles, so that means stopping at all stop signs, yielding to pedestrians, and riding within three feet of the edge of the road. You can be cited for improper operation of an e-bike. When on a sidewalk, the motor should be disengaged. Also keep in mind that you are not as visible on any type of bike, so be mindful of backing vehicles and make sure you have proper lighting if out at night. See below for City Code and Ohio Revised Code related to these vehicles:

The NRPD has been advised by Arbor Metrics, the company that will be flying the Aerial D̶o̶o̶m̶ Boom Saw that they will be operating in our area either today (Thursday), tomorrow (Friday) or Monday depending on how far they get each day. With that in mind, here are some Do's/Don't if you happen to see the saw in action:

-Don't slam on your brakes and stop in the middle of the road to take photos with your phone.

-Do pull off the road if you intend to watch the saw.

-Do be mindful of other's private property.

-Don't throw logs, sides of beef, or anything else you need cut up at the saw.

-Most importantly...DO NOT interfere with the crews working with the saw, they are there to work and don't have time to cut your exes house/car/boat in half.

Our officers were out at the North Royalton Elementary School Touch-A-Truck event this morning to teach the students all about our vehicles. The students were particularly excited to hear about the SWAT Bearcat. The kids were a little disappointed that the Aerial Doom Saw from our last post didn't make an appearance, but soon enough...fun was had by all.

No, we're not in a James Bond movie... NRPD has been advised by a contractor to First Energy that they will be flying this terrifying looking contraption along the main transmission lines along the Ohio Turnpike within the next few weeks to clear tree branches that might be getting close to the lines. The flights will be weather dependent and they will let us know when they are happening. There will also be crews on the ground when the helicopter is in the air. We're letting everyone know in advance as we expect this might attract some attention (and 911 calls)

There will be some work on the State Road Turnpike overpass beginning on May 26th and lasting approximately 10 working days. To minimize disruptions, at least one lane of traffic will remain open at all times, with flaggers utilized as needed to safely maintain traffic flow.
