Our district is unique and presents it's own challenges due to the busy State Route 104 as well

as Sodus Bay and Lake Ontario. We currently operate out of one station located on North Huron St. in the village, with a second station located in Huron on the North/West corner of Lake Bluff Rd and Lummisville Rd.

The volunteer Fire service could use more volunteers now more then ever.

* Volunteer fire departments across the United States are facing a critical and growing shortage of manpower, a crisis that has intensified as call volumes have tripled in the last 30 years. The number of volunteer firefighters dropped to a historic low of 676,900 in 2020, down from nearly 900,000 in 1984, with the trend continuing into 2025-2026.

* New York State reports volunteer numbers at their lowest in 40 years, with several departments forced to close in the past year.

* Smaller, rural communities are heavily impacted as they rely on volunteers for nearly 70% of fire services.

Joining the volunteer fire service offers a mix of personal fulfillment through community service and a tight-knit "firehouse family," along with tangible benefits such as free training, insurance coverage, and various financial incentives which can vary by department and state.

* Sense of Purpose and Community, Camaraderie and Lifelong Friendships, Personal Growth, Excitement and Variety, Networking Opportunities.

There’s a role and a place for everyone! So if you’ve ever thought about it or had questions about the volunteer fire service reach out to your local dept!
