North Ridgeville Fire Department

North Ridgeville Fire Department North Ridgeville (OH) Fire Department. Operated by the North Ridgeville Firefighters’ Local 2129 Station 1:
7000 Ranger Way

Station 2:
34523 Lorain Rd.

Founded in 1931, the Ridgeville Township Fire Department was originally formed as a volunteer service, serving a population of less than 5,000 residents. In 1957, an official station (Old Station 1) was built to house fire apparatus and equipment used by the firefighters. By 1960, the township had grown enough, and the city of North Ridgeville was formed. Along with a surge in population, the need

to expand city departments was soon evident, and the fire department transitioned to a full-time service in 1967, affording the residents protection around the clock. In 1970, the department's first ambulance was put into service, responding to medical emergencies throughout the city and providing basic life support (BLS). In 1974, Station 2 was built to help improve response times to a quickly growing southern portion of the city. 1995 saw an expansion of the department, adding 7 new members who were all state certified Paramedics. With these Paramedics, the city was now able to provide advanced life support (ALS) service to it's residents. All members hired since 1995 are required to be state certified Paramedics prior to employment. The department now responds to both fire and medical emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All active members are state certified Firefighters and Paramedics. At this time, the North Ridgeville Fire Department is made up of 40 members including:
One Fire Chief,
Two Assistant Fire Chiefs (Training and Fire Prevention),
Three 12 member shifts working in 24 hour rotations known as A, B, and C shift, each comprised of 1 Captain, 3 Lieutenants and 8 Firefighters,
and one Civilian Administrative Assistant. Per the City of North Ridgeville’s Social Media Policy:

🚒 North Ridgeville Fire Department – May Fire Safety Tip
Monthly Fire Safety Tips

The North Ridgeville Fire Department continues our Monthly Fire Safety Tips series to help keep our community safe as we move into the warmer months.

With more outdoor activity and changing weather conditions, this month’s focus is on how quickly fires can spread outdoors—and the rules in place to help prevent them.

🔥🌬️ May Fire Safety Tip: Preventing Outdoor Fire Spread

Brush fires and outdoor fires can spread rapidly, especially during dry or windy conditions. Even a small fire can quickly grow out of control if proper precautions aren’t taken.

⚠️ Statewide Burn Ban Reminder (Ohio)
From March 1 through May 31, open burning of yard waste, brush, and debris is prohibited between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Recreational fires are still permitted but must follow all safety guidelines.

📄 North Ridgeville Permit Reminder
Recreational fire permits are required annually and valid for the calendar year.

Permits can be obtained by:
🔸 Visiting Fire Station 1 (7000 Ranger Way) to complete a form in person
🔸 Going to the city website and navigating to: Fire Department → Community Services and Resources → Recreational Fire Permit

🔥 Recreational Fire Safety Requirements
🔸 Fires must be at least 25 feet from structures and combustible materials (homes, sheds, fences, decks)
🔸 Gas-fired fire pits and portable outdoor fireplaces must be at least 15 feet from structures
🔸 Fires must be constantly attended until completely extinguished
🔸 Have a fire extinguisher (minimum 4-A rating), water source, hose, sand, or dirt available
🔸 Keep fires small—no larger than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height
🔸 Eliminate conditions that could allow fire to spread before ignition

⚠️ Fires that create a hazardous condition or do not meet permit requirements may be ordered extinguished.

🔥 General Outdoor Fire Safety Tips
🔸 Avoid burning on dry or windy days
🔸 Keep fires small and manageable
🔸 Clear the area of dry grass, leaves, and debris
🔸 Never use gasoline or other accelerants

🚨 Important Reminder
If a fire becomes too large or begins to spread, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Outdoor fires can become dangerous in seconds—but by following both state regulations and local permit requirements, they can be prevented.

If you have questions about burn permits or outdoor fire safety, the North Ridgeville Fire Department is here to help.

Stay safe, North Ridgeville, and watch for next month’s Fire Safety Tip! 🚒🔥🌿

🚒 North Ridgeville Fire Department – Community Thank You

The North Ridgeville Fire Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to several organizations whose generous support has helped us enhance fire safety training within our community.

Thanks to contributions from the North Ridgeville Corn Festival Committee, VFW Post 9871, and R.W. Beckett, our department has been able to purchase a new fire extinguisher training simulator.

This simulator will allow us to provide hands-on training for local businesses, helping employees learn the proper use of fire extinguishers in a safe, controlled environment. This type of training is critical in the early moments of a fire emergency and can make a significant difference in protecting lives and property.

We are grateful for the continued support from these organizations and their commitment to improving safety in North Ridgeville.

Additional information about upcoming training opportunities will be shared in the future.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe! 🚒🔥

The North Ridgeville Fire Department continues our Monthly Fire Safety Tips series to help keep our community safe as the seasons change.

With warmer weather arriving, many residents are spending more time outdoors. This month, we’re focusing on staying safe while enjoying outdoor activities at home.

🔥🌳 April Fire Safety Tip: Outdoor & Backyard Fire Safety

Fire pits, grills, and outdoor fires are common this time of year—but they can quickly become dangerous if not used properly.

🔥 Fire Pit & Recreational Fire Safety
🔸 Recreational fires must be at least 25 feet from structures and combustible materials such as homes, sheds, fences, and decks.
🔸 Gas-fired fire pits and portable outdoor fireplaces must be at least 15 feet from structures and used according to manufacturer guidelines.
🔸 Fires must be constantly attended until completely extinguished.
🔸 Always have a water source, hose, dirt, sand, or a fire extinguisher (minimum 4-A rating) readily available.
🔸 Keep fires small—no larger than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height.
🔸 Burn only clean, dry, seasoned firewood—no trash, leaves, or accelerants.

📄 Permit Reminder
Recreational fire permits are free and valid for the calendar year. Residents must follow all permit requirements, and unsafe or non-compliant fires may be ordered extinguished.

🍔 Grilling Safety
🔸 Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home and deck railings.
🔸 Never use grills inside garages or enclosed spaces.
🔸 Clean grease buildup regularly to prevent flare-ups.
🔸 Check propane tanks and connections before use.

🌿 Spring Safety Reminder
Dry conditions and wind can cause fires to spread quickly. Always use caution and monitor conditions before starting any outdoor fire.

A few simple precautions can help prevent outdoor fires and keep your family and neighbors safe.

If you have questions about recreational fire permits or outdoor burning safety, the North Ridgeville Fire Department is here to help.
