North Prairie Fire Department

North Prairie Fire Department This is the North Prairie Fire Department's new page, check back for events and be sure to share with your family/friends.

Our Fire Department was founded April 17th 1934 and has gone through many changes since its inception but one factor that hasn’t really changed in all these years is that the NPFD is still an all volunteer service. In the beginning members were called into action by a fire bell that was hung next to the village hall. The bell would sound to notify members and the community of a fire. Today fire de

partment members are called into action by small pagers worn on our belts. The old Fire Bell now rests on the front lawn of the Fire Department and is part of a memorial to all the firefighters/rescuers who have served our great community over the years. For many years our department was a "fire only" service. In the mid 70's a first responder program was added that worked in conjunction with the Waukesha County Sheriff and later the Wales Fire Department, who actually transported the patients. In 1981 the department purchased its first ambulance, and today the department has a fully equipped ambulance and very skilled EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technician) able to handle any emergency situation that arises. North Prairie takes immense pride in its Fire and Rescue apparatus fleet. The fleet consists of a 1996 Pierce Tele-Squirt (a 50 ft. aerial truck), a 1999 Pierce Pumper, a 2006 Med-Tec ambulance, and 1 1991 GMC Tender with the ability to carry a total of 3000 gallons of water too remote or non-hydranted areas. Also, in our fleet are a 1997 Dodge Grass Rig and a 2007 rescue/command vehicle. Many of our department members now hold several titles of training. This is to support the different services the North Prairie Fire Department provides. Not only do we have the fire and rescue aspects, other services include dive rescue, ice rescue, and low angle rope rescue. The department itself is made up of men and women who have volunteered to help their community. They may be your neighbors, or part of your family. Whichever the case these men and women give up their time at all hours of the day or night, to leave their families and even their jobs, all to help perfect strangers in their worst time of need. They spend countless hours in training, meetings, and responding to emergencies. So if you know someone who is a member of any fire or rescue service please take some time to thank them. It will make you feel better, and we know it will make them feel better.

May you Rest In Peace and may peace be with your family brother.

The Chicago Fire Department lost one of its bravest today after a multiple alarm fire. There is simply nothing worse. We wish peace for the CFD and brother Plummer’s family. He was only 30 years old.
