North Port Public Works earns APWA accreditation for fourth time

The North Port Department of Public Works recently received full accreditation by the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the fourth time.

This accreditation formally verifies and recognizes that the department is fully compliant with the recommended management practices outlined in APWA’s Public Works Management Practices Manual. Accreditation promotes excellence in the operation and management of a public works agency, its programs and employees.

"The Department of Public Works is committed to continuous improvement and excellence," said Public Works Director Chuck Speake. "This achievement belongs to the dedicated employees whose mission is to provide services and programs that help make North Port a great place to live and work."

The initial accreditation from APWA is for a four-year period, during which time semi-annual updates are required to demonstrate continuing compliance. After that time, there is a re-accreditation process which builds on the original accreditation, encouraging continuous improvement and compliance with newly identified practices.

North Port's Department of Public Works first earned this recognition in 2014. It is one of 42 accredited agencies in Florida.

Today I hosted a very special visit for Chauncey Moore at city hall. After a visit to my office, we visited the City Manager's office. A truly memorable event!! Thank you, Michele Moore for sharing your little cutie!

Thank you to all the volunteers who set up a fundraising event for Special Olympics at El Primo in North Port last night. The North Port Police were there in full support of the event, including Chief Todd Garrison and Deputy Chief Chris Morales. And Special thanks to El Primo who hosted the event.

This morning was a busy one. I had coffee with a resident to bounce ideas about a hot topic coming to the commission later this month. Gave blood at Boots and Badges. Growing up in a family of donors, I keep that tradition alive as l9ng as I am able. Finished just in time to visit the Moose Lodge in North Port for their community day. The room was packed, and the 2 chefs working the grill and smoker in this heat, have my undying admiration. Happy Saturday, everyone.
