Tropical Storm / Hurricane Henri Preparedness
The 11am- Friday, August 20, 2021 forecast track for Henri from the National Hurricane Center has shifted slightly further westward. The potential for heavy rain/flooding impacts - especially across the southern half of Vermont - is increasing, and the potential for locally strong winds is also increasing across central and southern Vermont. Based on current expectations, impacts are expected to begin Sunday evening, and would continue into Monday as the system is expected to slow its forward speed as it pushes inland across southern New England.
In preparation of this storm, we urge all residents to take the following precautions:
1. Be sure your driveway culvert is open and water can flow through it.
2. Be sure your generator is operational, and that you have gas on hand to fill it, if needed.
3. Have several gallons of drinking water and at least three days of non-perishable food on hand.
4. Be sure your cell phone and other electronics are fully charged.
5. Be sure you have a battery powered radio, flashlight and fresh batteries on hand.
6. Have a first aid kit and refill on any necessary medications.
7. Keep abreast of the storm via radio or tv broadcast.
8. If you have questions about the storm, please call 211.
9. If you have an EMERGENCY call 911.

We have received 342 early ballots back as of this morning, which amounts to 45.8% of our active voters! Have you sent your ballot in yet? Mail it, drop it off during office hours, or put it in the mail slot when we're closed. Prefer to vote in person on Election Day? No problem! The polls will be open on November 3rd from 8am to 7pm - bring the ballot you were mailed if possible. Wear a mask, sanitize your hands, and cast your ballot as usual!

If you're interested in tracking the early ballots across the State, check out this link and interactive map -

For the first time ever, every registered voter in Vermont received a ballot in the mail. According to town clerks across Vermont, those ballots are being returned in record numbers.

• Tax payments and copies of tax bills
• Dog registration/licensing
• Marriage/Birth/Death certificates

Please go to healthvermont.gov/covid19 for the most up-to-date state information and guidance about COVID-19, including information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). You may call the VT Department of Health at (802)863-7240, or call community services information at 2-1-1.

We encourage everyone to follow CDC and US/VT Department of Health handwashing and social distancing recommendations. However, keep in mind that social distancing also results in social isolation. This is an important time to be a good neighbor. With social distancing caution, please check in periodically with your neighbors and other community members who are homebound, frail, elderly, or subject to loneliness.

Thank you for understanding that these are unusual times, requiring precautions for public safety and health. Many Pomfret community members are in the high-risk group, and we believe taking these precautions will help to keep ourselves and our community members healthy.

Becky Fielder, Town Clerk
Ellen DesMeules, Treasurer
Sally Weglarz, Assistant Town Clerk/Assistant Treasurer
