Effective February 28, 2026, the North Plains City Council welcomes Sergeant Eamon O’Reilly in a temporary role as the City's new Police Chief in partnership with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Current Chief Nick Jones will assist with the transition before temporarily filling the role of a Lieutenant supporting Washington County’s Patrol Division.

“I am excited to explore this new opportunity and build relationships within a welcoming community like North Plains”, said Chief O’Reilly.

Sergeant O’Reilly brings valuable experience, having served in the Sheriff's Office Patrol Division for the last 18 years, with an additional four years working in the jail, starting in 2004. His diverse law enforcement career includes work on various special teams, including the Canine Team, Tactical Negotiations Team, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert, Mobile Field Force, Corrections Emergency Response Team, and Court Security.

Community Update: Speed Zone Changes

On Wednesday, January 21st, Washington County Land Use and Transportation (LUT) will be making some needed changes along the following roads:

1. NW Gordon Rd - 35 MPH (speed zone on NW Gordon Rd from 150 feet south of NW Vadis Rd to NW North Ave)

2. NW Mountaindale Rd - 40 MPH (speed zone from NW North Ave to 100 feet west of NW Old Pumpkin Ridge Rd)

3. NW North Ave – New stop sign at the intersection

North Plains deputies will do their best to educate drivers about the new speed limit changes and appreciate your support in keeping our community a safe place to live and thrive.

Community Notice:

Earlier today, A North Plains resident discovered old explosives on a family-owned farming property that has been in the family since 1952. Concerned about safety, the homeowner called for assistance from the Portland Metro Explosives Disposal Unit (Metro EDU).

Metro EDU decided to detonate some of the explosives in place, which may be heard in the surrounding community. Please do not call 9-1-1, as there is no danger to the public.

📞 Call 911 if:
• You see a fire or someone is injured
• Fireworks are being used unsafely and causing immediate danger
• You witness a fight or threat involving fireworks

📱 Use non-emergency dispatch (503-629-0111) for:
• Noise complaints
• Illegal fireworks without an immediate danger
• Ongoing neighborhood concerns
