These two counselors in training have been coming to camp together since they were 6 years old. They have fond memories of kayaking and seine netting as campers. Now that they are in high school, they get to come back to help make sure the younger campers have great experiences in camp like they did.

It’s hatchling season! Our survey team was lucky enough to see this Leatherback hatchling last week. Nesting update on this : So far this season our team has documented a total of 1,058 Loggerhead nests, 131 Green Sea Turtle nests, and 54 Leatherback nests.

This photo was taken by one of our trained Park Rangers from a safe distance. If you are lucky enough to witness a sea turtle hatchling make their way from the nest to the shoreline, be sure to give them space and let them make their way down the beach on their own. And remember to please keep our beach clean (remove all beach toys, chairs, tents, etc. & pick up trash on beach), dark (no lights at night), and flat (take down sandcastles and fill holes before you leave for the evening) during nesting season.

These two counselors in training have been coming to camp since they were 8 years old. A decade later, they are planning their next steps into college!

How amazing is it that we get to see these kids grow up at MacBeach and become the stewards for our planet?

Sea turtle tracks, but no nest? That’s called a false crawl (pictured here). A false crawl happens when a female sea turtle comes onto the beach but returns to the ocean without laying eggs. She may have been looking for better nesting conditions, avoiding obstacles, or responding to light, noise, or disturbance. False crawls are a natural part of nesting season, and every track gives researchers and park staff important clues about sea turtle activity. Help protect nesting turtles by keeping the beach clean and dark, filling in holes, knocking down sandcastles, and giving wildlife plenty of space.

MacBeach Summer Camp is off to a great start! Today concluded a week of our Sunshine Explorers camp. Our youngest campers (ages 6-8) had a fun filled week swimming in the ocean, seine netting in the estuary, meeting Shelly the Park’s ambassador Loggerhead Sea Turtle, learning environmental concepts through arts and crafts and interactive games, and more! The Friends Education Team is excited to welcome a new group of campers next week!

Today is the last day of school for Palm Beach County students! During the 2025-2026 school year, the Friends education team served over 4,000 students in the Palm Beach County School District from 1st to 12th grade. These students were able to explore and learn about the different ecosystems the park has to offer. Through using scientific tools to sample water and soil to walking among the mangroves in our estuary and the wrack line along our beach, students connected to their local environments in new ways.
☀️
Thanks to our community education partners we continue to offer these field trips (including transportation) free of charge to local schools. We couldn’t do it without our education partners: Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund, Sharkey Family Foundation, and VoLo Foundation. And a special thank you to Bus One LLC which provided transportation for many of our field trip groups this year. We are so grateful to have been able to provide so many meaningful experiences for students this year and we are looking forward to next school year!

Meet our summer semester interns: Sean, Allie, and Shae (pictured left to right)! We are excited to welcome back Intern Allie for a second semester and introduce you to interns Sean and Shae. They have been working hard and training this past month in preparation for MacBeach Summer Camp!
☀️
Sean, a third-year student at Florida Atlantic University, is majoring in biology with a concentration in environmental sciences. His favorite part of the park is observing the diverse array of mangroves.
☀️
Allie graduated from UNC Asheville with a B.S. in Ecology & Environmental Biology and a certificate in Sustainability. She spent 2025 working in animal care and rehabilitation and joined the Friends of MacArthur Beach as an intern this spring. She’s excited to continue developing her skills in leadership and environmental education this summer, and her favorite activity in the park is kayaking.
☀️
Shae is getting a degree in biology and environmental studies from Southwestern University in Texas. She took a gap year in Florida before going to college and discovered MacArthur Beach State Park. Years later, she is back, now with more education and professional experience, as a summer intern!
☀️
We are so excited to have them here, say hi when you see them around the park!
